A Matter That Should Be at the Highest Importance to Every American: My Hair.

So I cut my hair. And before you click away and scoff at me for dedicating an entire blog post to my hair, just hear me out.

My new haircut. I love it!

About once every other year, I cut my hair dramatically short because I get so tired of it. It gets so long, and it's so damaged because I'm too broke lazy to go to the salon once every few months like normal people. I usually save dramatic hair cutting for when something important is going on in my life like the start of summer getting a new job or something equally life-changing, but this time, I just kind of did it on a whim. I've been needing a cut for a million years now, and I stumbled upon this girl who had the most adorable swing bob, and she had a round face like me, and I thought, "Could I pull this off?" I was freaking out the whole drive to the salon, and my sister was cheering me on. The lady who did my hair could tell I was nervous, but she assured me that the style was going to look great on me.

I went to Destiny Day Spa, and my hairdresser was such a sweetheart. Usually when I walk into hair salons, they take one look at my hair and then eyeball each other to see which sucker is going to get stuck with my mane, but I didn't get that vibe here. Granted, there was only one person on duty, but she wasn't intimidated by the tangled mop on my head.

I've officially found my new favorite hair salon.

I wish I could tell you how many inches of hair I lost, but I have no idea. In some places 10, in other places more, but since it's a swing bob and cut into layers, it's pretty hard to tell. I can say that I feel like there's a huge weight off my shoulders. My hair was starting to weigh me down, and with the combination of all of hair she cut off and the thinning she did, my hair feels so awesome and healthy.

Nervous before the cut

With all the clips she had to use, I felt like I was in Zenon

One random funny thing that happened there: She was sweeping up my hair...

Can't believe all of that was on my head

and she tried to sweep it into this nifty vacuum thing, but it ended up getting stopped up because it was too much hair at once. Oops.

Before the styling. This is what I have to look forward to post-showering

I really love how my hair turned out. It feels great, and I think the cut makes me look a little older. Instead of being 16, maybe people will think I'm a college freshman. Little do they know I'll be a quarter of a century this year. Yikes.

The finished product

P.S. I made sure not to take a mirror selfie with my new haircut, because last time I did, someone took my picture off of Twitter and this happened:

What do y'all think?

  2. I go through these phases too...and each time I regret cutting it off and pretend it's the last time. But I love that fresh new hair feeling of a good cut. It sounds like you had a great experience at the spa and your hair looks super cute!

  3. I think it's adorable! I go through the long hair-chop-short hair-regrowth cycle every few years, too, and I've always wanted to get some super trendy, sassy hair. I'm just so scared of how it will look! Your trust in your hair stylist totally paid off because the new 'do looks great! :)

  7. It looks great! Similar to how I'm hoping to cut my hair this weekend. Long, swingy bobs are the best.

  8. Thank you! Even though it was a pretty rash decision, I'm so happy I did it! We'll be hair twins!

  9. Change is usually good, and I love how it turned out. And I know! I was so surprised. A lot of random people kept coming up to me at school, and I was like "what the heck?" But now I just laugh at it. At least it's not something too inappropriate.

  10. Thank you! I liked my long hair too, but it was so damaged. I normally would have gone for just a trim, but I decided to be dramatic.

  11. Thanks so much! And I know - I found out from other people who randomly saw it on the internet. At first I just didn't understand, but now I just laugh at it. I'm just relieved it wasn't something super inappropriate.

  12. It's good to know I'm not the only one who goes through hair cycles. This is my first trendy haircut, and I'm in love with it. It's hard to find people who can handle all of my hair, but this girl was fabulous!

  19. I love it! Haircuts on a whim seem to always come out the best because you don't overthink it. You definitely rock it!

  20. Loving the new hair cut! I always want to do something drastic, but I have to keep my hair long enough to throw up in a bun/ponytail!

  22. You know it's that Filipino blood. You'll look like you're in high school until you hit your 50s, then it's all downhill from there. hahahaha

  25. Right?! It's a blessing and a curse. I was just in New Orleans and got carded twice in the same bar. The second time, I was like "I'm already in here and I'm holding a drink. Give me a break!"

  26. Thanks so much! I love how it turned out.

  27. I can officially no longer put my hair in a ponytail. I tried and it fell after about half an hour. Already feeling the struggle. I still love it though!

  28. Exactly! I second what you said. This is by far my favorite haircut I've ever gotten, and I think it's because it was on a whim. Thanks so much!

  30. Thank you! I'm so bad about getting regular trims. Oops.

  31. Thank you! It's definitely super thick. I get tired of it so easily. It's already easier to manage short. I love it.

  32. Yes! Everyone compliments my hair and tells me not to cut it, but that's only because they don't have to deal with it on a daily basis haha. It's much easier to manage now, but it's still thick.

  37. Thank you! I love love love it! I feel like it suits me and makes me look much older and more mature. But then I start talking and people realize that I'm not older and not mature haha.
