Endless Bliss | Happy Lifestyle Blog: Baby, You're My Summer Jam

Baby, You're My Summer Jam

Summer is upon us, y'all. Even though summer technically doesn't start until Sunday, it's been feeling like summer for quite some time down in Louisiana. The humidity is outrageous, the heat is unbearable and the sun has come out to play.

For a lot of people, summer is synonymous with vacation, and I'm no exception to this. I only have one trip planned for the summer (Chicago for T. Swift, duh), but I'm hoping for a spontaneous road trip or two. And what's the best part of a spontaneous road trip? Picking the music! Okay, well, maybe that's not the best part, but having a good summer road trip playlist is definitely a fun way to get excited about your trip. These are a few of my current favorite summer road trip jams.

If y'all follow me on Twitter, then you know my love for Alex & Sierra runs deep. They recently followed me on Twitter, and I took a screenshot because it made me so unbelievably happy. These two are so, so talented. I can listen to their entire album from start to finish. "Just Kids" is one my faves because it's a feel good, happy song about just living life.

Favorite lyrics: This is our turn now / Nothing left to think about / Baby, let your hair down

Y'all can thank Colleen for this one. I first heard this song when she and her friend, Kory, did a sassy dance to it. After that, it was over. I've been listening to this ever since. This song just makes me want to dance!

Favorite lyrics: Uh huh, see me in the spot like / "Ooh I love your style" / Uh huh, show me what you got / Cause I don't wanna waste my time

One of my co-workers introduced me to ODESZA, and this is easily my favorite song by them. I've probably listened to it every day since I first heard it. It's just hard not to love it.

Favorite lyrics: I always fall for confidence / And your compliments look good on me

I literally love all of the lyrics in this song. I decided it's my temporary anthem.

Favorite lyrics: Some people want me to be heads or tails / I say no way, try again another day / I should be happy, not tipping the scales / I just won't lay, letting my life get away

I'm so glad Hilary is back, because I love her. She's just as beautiful as ever, and even though I wasn't a huge fan of her hair at first, I'm kind of loving it in this video. I can totally picture myself driving with the windows down and this song blasting. I only say this because it's already happened.

Favorite lyrics: Turn the lights down low and kiss me in the dark / Cause when you're touching me / Baby, I see sparks

This song is so funky, and I can't help but move my shoulders to the beat when I hear it.

Favorite lyrics: See the answer is this / If I wanna be free / I gotta stop playin' round and runnin' from me

Of course I had to include at least one song about summer. I mentioned this song last year when I shared my favorite songs about summer. I just adore Jessie James and "Boys in the Summer" so much. The music video is too cute. This song is the perfect addition to all girls' summer road trip playlists.

Favorite lyrics: It's hot as hell, even in the shade / Squeeze you a little bit of lemonade / Wearing next to nothing and we like it

What's your favorite thing about summer?
I love that I get to camp out at the fiance's and come home every night to cook dinner together and catch up on Netflix. I love heading to the parents' house for the weekend to lay poolside and wedding plan with my momma, and I actually love being on more of a "real world" routine with work, so I know when everything is slotted to get done!

What's the best advice you've ever received?
Life is going to keep moving forward regardless of the obstacles you face, so take everything in stride, focus, and follow your dreams with the full intention of getting there. That, and with regards to blogging, "keep your eyes on your own paper!" It can be far too easy to start comparing yourself to everyone under the sun, but that's just toxic and never leave you feeling good. Just focus on always bettering yourself and helping others, and you will see progress!

What's something that you're passionate about?
Inspiring others to believe in themselves and create full, joyful lives. I really wish my full-time career could be "inspiring people." I just want to go around making people's days all the time and make a life out of that. Is that possible??

What are you most looking forward to about married life?
Getting to wake up and fall asleep every night with my best friend. And more regular toothbrush wars. I'm also really excited to change my last name and embrace this challenge of living selflessly for another person. It's really intimidating to me, but so so beautiful.

What's something that always makes you happy?
Watching Miranda Sings videos on YouTube. Actually though. I just have such a respect for Colleen's acting abilities - she never breaks character! The former theater girl in me is screaming with sheer bliss every time I watch her.

  1. Thanks for the introduction to Erica! Also, I'm all about the girl power in your playlist! Fifth Harmony, Jesse James Decker, and Hilary Duff - that's a power team right there!

  2. Ahh I love Erica!! Also, Just Kids is on my summer jams spotify playlist!! Also also, I love how Sparks is the "fan demanded version" that made giggle. Worth It & I Know You Like It are both fantastic songs. Let's take a roadtrip together (to Harry Potter world, obviously) just so we can jam to awesome music.

  3. Love Worth It and Boys in the Summer, but what is up with some of those music videos? You're right that Jessie James' is cute, but Hilary's is whack. And the clothes that Fifth Harmony wears look very dated.

I love this playlist! Odesza is my current obsession.

  5. You are the absolute sweetest, Tiff! Also these jams though. You've given me some new ones to check out (yay!), but I'm already such a huge fan of A&S and Worth It. Currently jamming out to Fire Under my Feet by Leona Lewis and Strawberry Swing by Frank Ocean. Check. Them. Out.

  11. Hilary Duff is everythinggggg!
I can't wait to get my hands on her new album and relive my teenage years again!

  12. This is awesome because I've been looking for new music and when better to explore it than summer!

  13. I can't wait to listen to these. I love discovering new artists. Thank you so much!

  14. I'm also taking a mini vacay to see Taylor Swift this summer. I'm seeing her in San Diego and I'm stoked for the excuse for a long Cali weekend. I've never been to Chicago but I want to visit. Thanks for sharing your playlist!

  15. I didn't even know Hilary Duff had a new album out. Thanks for helping me update my music list! Love these!!
Also love Erica's answer for what are you most looking forward to about married life!!

  16. Omg! I"m so obsessed with Hilary's new album. I actually just listened to it all the way through for the first time this morning. It just came out a couple days ago, so you're not too late to the game.

  17. Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Taylor Swift is totally worth traveling for. I've never been to San Diego, so I'm definitely a little jealous!

  18. I agree! At first, I wasn't sure, but after I heard this song, I just became a tad obsessed.

  19. You're welcome! I hope you enjoy discovering some new tunes.

  20. Yay! I hope these bring some awesomeness to your summer.

  21. I'm so happy you agree, Jess! I will forever love Hilary Duff.

  22. I hope you enjoy them, Amy! I'm glad you're able to be on a computer again, and I hope you're feeling better!

  24. Road trips are my favorite too! They're just so fun.

  25. YOU'RE the sweetest. I will definitely be checking out those two songs after I hit reply on this comment. Thanks for the recommendations!

  26. I'm so happy you love Odesza too!

  27. Right?! I was thinking the same thing when I was posting this.

  28. I loved the original version of "Sparks" because of the story, but I just want to listen to the song! Haha. Taking a road trip together to HP world is pretty much my dream.

  29. Erica is adorable! You should definitely check out her blog if you haven't already. She's seriously the best. I'm all about that girl power too! Glad you enjoyed the playlist!

  30. OMG I have finally found someone who loves Alex & Sierra as much as I do. When my boyfriend and I broke up, I remember listening to Broken Frame and Bumper Cars on the flight home and just crying. Their music is SO powerful and you can feel the emotion with every note.

  37. So on point! Love all of these

  38. If that's the same Jessie James that sings "I look so good without you," whoa. MAJOR transformation. Also, how has Hilary Duff managed to not age?!

  39. I literally just heard Worth It! Going to listen to the rest of this list!

  40. Awesome playlist! I actually know a couples of these songs because they get blasted in the office where I work. Great selection, especially the first track.

  41. These are all awesome songs to blast!

  42. That's so funny! I have been jammin' way too hard to "Worth It."

  43. That is the same Jessie James! I love that song by her too. I don't know how Hilary still looks so perfect, but she's just so flawless!

  44. So jealous! I want to go to Charleston so bad! My family lives there, and I haven't been in a few years. Have so much fun!

  45. Yay! I hope you enjoy jammin' out to these!
