Endless Bliss | Happy Lifestyle Blog: If You Love Harry Potter So Much, Why Don't You Marry It?

If You Love Harry Potter So Much, Why Don't You Marry It?

My love for Harry Potter is undeniable at this point. My boyfriend thinks I'm certifiably crazy (for more reasons beyond my HP obsession, but that's another blog post for another time). I think anyone who grew up with Harry Potter like I did would understand. Harry Potter pretty much defined an entire generation. There is no book series like it. I was around Harry's age when the first book came out, and I grew up with him, Ron and Hermione through both the books and the movies. Some may think that my love for HP is just a phase, but I assure you, it's not. It's like abandoning a friend that I've known my entire life even though they did nothing wrong. It just wouldn't be right.

YOU WENT TO THE MIDNIGHT MOVIE PREMIERES AND/OR BOOK RELEASES
I'm happy to say that I did both of these. Even though I didn't read Harry Potter until after the second book was released, after I read it, I was hooked, and there was no way I was going to get off the Harry Potter train (or Platform 9 3/4, if you will). For the last few books, my friends and I made it an event to go to the midnight book releases at Barnes & Noble. We participated in the crafts, mingled with the muggles, and even played a little dress up (not to the extreme of an entire Gryffindor student get-up, but we drew the lightning bolt on our foreheads and wore the glasses. We were in middle school after all. We had to keep our reps in tact).

Of course, midnight showings of the movies were a must. My friends and I would always run into other people we knew and be surprised by all of the unexpected Pottheads we encountered. A love of Harry Potter creates a bond like no other.

YOU'VE VISITED A WORLD CREATED FOR HARRY POTTER FANS
(or you've at least fantasized about the idea)
Granted, you only have two options here: Harry Potter World at Universal Studios in Florida and the Harry Potter Studio Tour in London. Or three if you count Platform 9 3/4 in London as well. If you're a true HP fan, surely you've at least started to plan a trip and got depressed about your bank account if you haven't already made the commute. While I have visited the studio in London, I'm itching to get to the HP World at Universal Studios. Nina and I are planning a double blogger blate to Orlando. Anyone wanna join?

YOU'VE LISTENED TO MUSIC INSPIRED BY HARRY POTTER
I recently introduced my sister to the band, Ministry of Magic, and she still judges me. While I don't listen to a lot of Harry Potter based music because the execution of most of it isn't that great, some of the songs are so accurate and hilarious.

YOU OWN SOMETHING HARRY POTTER THEMED
We're talking a wand or a necklace or a broom or a shirt. Something beyond the entire movie and book collection, because surely every true HP fan has both of those. I have four Harry Potter shirts and a sweater. I also have a pair of Harry Potter glasses that I got at one of the midnight book releases. I have a Harry Potter mug that I won from a giveaway. I also bought a Butterbeer cup at WB Studios and a postcard from the shop next to Platform 9 3/4 in Kings Cross. If anyone were to get me anything Harry Potter themed, I would be giddy with excitement. Yes, I'm approaching 25, but that's irrelevant.

YOU KNOW WHICH HOUSE YOU'RE IN
You may have taken the Buzzfeed quiz or another quiz found with a Google search, but for the die-hards, you found out the real way by signing up for Pottermore and getting sorted into your house. What house am I in? Go, go Gryffindor! Getting sorted into Gryffindor just really reemphasized the fact that Hermione Granger and I would be besties.

YOU HAVE A HARRY POTTER PINTEREST BOARD
There are just too many good Harry Potter memes and such that it's impossible for me not to have a whole board dedicated to Harry Potter. Some of my favorite pins from my board:

YOU HAVE (or have had) A PET NAMED AFTER A HARRY POTTER CHARACTER
I used to have a hedgehog named Flitwick. Yes, used to. I had to give him away because Jon's dog and Flitwick wouldn't have gotten along well. In either case, it still counts. I had him and named him Flitwick, which totally suited him. He probably has some vanilla name now like Bob (oh wait, that was the name of my first fish).

YOU'VE USED A HARRY POTTER SPELL DURING A NORMAL, EVERYDAY CONVERSATION
Sometimes, it's more fun to say "Riddikulus" instead of "ridiculous" or to yell "Avada Kedavra" when you're just done with someone or the conversation. Those who understand appreciate it, those who don't...stupify!

YOU RECEIVED YOUR LETTER
Thanks to one of my college roommates, I finally did receive my letter to attend Hogwarts: The School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Too bad it was a few years too late, and I was ultimately unable to attend. Bollucks.

HARRY POTTER MADE YOU CRY AT SOME POINT
Whether it was when Sirius died or when Dumbledore died or when Harry realized that Snape was on his side the whole time or when Dobby died or when the series ended or just because you love Harry Potter so much it brings tears to your eyes, if you cried because of Harry Potter, then I suppose you can be considered a super fan.

BONUS: YOU HAVE A HARRY POTTER TATTOO
(or you've at least pinned the HP tats on Pinterest)
This past Sunday, I went to Scaredy Tatts in Bossier and got inked. Again. This time, I got the Deathly Hallows symbols, and I absolutely adore it. I think it suits me, and it's something I know I'll love forever.

So how many of these are true for you?

  1. I can check all of these but the pet and the tattoo! My partner didn't grow up reading HP and just doesn't understand. When we first started dating, I made him watch ALL of the movies and I'm slowly reading the books to him since he hates reading...
But the obsession never dies, you think it will and it doesn't. I can't get enough Fanfics and gifsets and just anything HP I want or have to have. I even have a larger than life cut-out of Harry, Ron and Hermione in my closet just waiting for the perfect time to be used!

  2. I definitely am a Gryffindor through and through! Plus I may have the biggest crush on Hermione Granger ever! I mean looks and brains! Ron sure is lucky!

  3. I love that tattoo. And I am currently watching HP 6 as we speak ;)

  4. I bought my mother-in-law a golden snitch necklace as one of her gifts for the wedding. She was so stoked. Oh and soon you'll have a third option for visiting the world of Harry Potter. They're really building a way here in Hollywood.

  5. ALL OF THE ABOVE (except the letter... I still haven't received mine). I love that tattoo and the placement, it's so subtle!

  6. I have gone to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida. I own all of the book. Hard and soft. I have to laugh about the 9 and 3/4 b/c the whole time we were at the berlin train station. My husband kept tell me we have to go to 9 and 3/4. I told him we had to go to London for that.

  7. your new tattoo looks perfect! that's really great placement.

when I was younger, my neighbor and I used to play a game where we pretended that we went to Hogwarts (:

  8. Ahhh, I love your tattoo! I've been wanting one for a while but haven't gotten a clue where to put it on my body yet :( I'm not going to lie, a few people caught me listening to HP bands and thought... wtf are you listening to? LOL, it's good music!

  9. I've been wanting to get a Deathly Hallows tattoo for awhile, and I couldn't figure out where I wanted it since I'm supposed to be all professional and whatnot. I think this is perfect placement for me because I can still show it off with sheer tops or shirts with low backs. HP music is so fun! I love it.

  10. Thank you! I love it so much. That sounds like a fun game!

  11. I can't wait to go to Harry Potter World in Florida! I'm hoping to go next year sometime. We'll see. That's so funny that your husband was saying that!

  12. You'll get yours one day! You can always order one for yourself on Etsy! Haha. And thank you! I love my new tat too. It fits me so well.

  13. I want a golden snitch necklace! It sounds so perfect. There are lots on Etsy, but I haven't bought one yet. That's awesome that there will be a third place to visit! I hope I get to go to that one too one day.

  14. I want to buy a wand at Ollivander's! They had some for sale in London, but I thought it would be better to go to Florida to get the full feel and experience. There are so many good ideas on Pinterest for tattoos. I already want to get another one. Maybe a small lightning bolt or something.

  15. Thank you! I just finished watching all of the movies all over again last week, and now I want to read the books again.

  16. Yay! Gryffindor obviously houses all the awesome people. Hermione is so awesome! Definite girl crush. She's so adorable, sassy, and has a heart of gold!

  17. Yay for getting your letter last year! That's when I got mine too! I want a time turner necklace! Omg! Sounds so amazing. I'm so serious about this HP blate. We WILL make it happen. Maybe I need to start dropping subtle hints to my boyfriend. I thought that I was going to be a Hufflepuff before I got sorted, but I got Gryffindor, which of course I was thrilled with. Anything but Slytherin as Harry says haha. Too bad Jon got Slytherin. I'm dating a Slytherin. Sigh.

  18. Harry Potter themed snacks would be so fun to make! I would love to have an HP themed party. I'm sure it'd be so cute! My boyfriend got Slytherin also, so I suppose Gryffindors and Slytherins can get along.

  19. Ugh. At least you're dating an HP lover. Pai could care less. I don't know if we'll make it through these troubling times. ;) JK.

  20. I was so surprised I got Slytherin that I even I signed up again under another e-mail address and answered the questions differently. Lo and behold I got Slytherin again!! YES to a Harry Potter themed party..You could serve butter beer and peppermint toads.

  21. Omg I love it!!! I have been thinking of getting an HP tattoo too but cannot decide what I want it to be

    ReplyDelete
  22. YES. I'm such a Harry Potter nerd its actually wonderful. I only got to get the 7th book at midnight (I was just a HS freshman then) but I saw I think the last 4 movies at midnight! I dressed up for the last one as Hermione, which was awesome. My mom also took me to Chicago a few years ago when the Field Museum (I think that was the one) had the HP exhibit there. I basically freaked out, same as when I went to HP World this May. IT WAS AMAZING AND YOU'LL HAVE SUCH A GREAT TIME. Diagon Alley wasn't open quite yet when I went but it looks amazing.

And don't worry, I've cried listening to wizard rock before. hahaha!

  23. Sooo many of those are true for me as well! I love your new tattoo! :)
Harry Potter will never die out in my heart! Yay Hufflepuff!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yay! I know you love HP just as much as me. You do own a broom after all.

  25. I think I liked the midnight book releases more than I liked the midnight movie premieres, but they were both awesome. I hate that you only got to go to one midnight book release, but I hope you enjoyed it! That's so fun that you dressed up as Hermione! I don't look like any of the characters, unfortunately. I did dress up as Moaning Myrtle last Halloween though! I didn't know there was an HP exhibit in Chicago! That's awesome. I'm so jealous that you've already gone to HP World! I can't wait to go! Ahh! I've never cried while listening to the music. Do you have any recommendations? I've only listened to Ministry of Magic.

  26. Harry Potter is the best! I love it so much. Obvs.

  27. There are so many ideas on Pinterest. I was inspired by so many, but eventually settled on this one. I already want another one. Maybe a small lightning bolt somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's crazy! I guess you really are a Slytherin through and through! Nothing wrong with that. Snape was in Slytherin after all, and he was secretly good the whole time.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the tattoo! Katie from Something Winnderful got one thats really similar! :)

  30. i LOVE harry potter! i'm extremely jealous you've been on the studio tour in london too! i went to universal studios a couple years ago, but now i need to go back because they've added on. and i love your tattoo and placement. i've wanted to get the deathly hallows simple for a while now, but can't decide on a good spot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OMG. All of these are me...except the tattoo, lol. Yours looks great though! I also love that Dobby sock board. #afterallthistime? #always

    ReplyDelete
  32. It's always good to find fellow Harry Potter fans! The studio tour in London was INCREDIBLE! I think it's a must for all HP fans. I want to go to Universal too! I've heard awesome things about Diagon Alley. I love my tattoo too! I want to buy more shirts with low backs to show it off.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Dobby sock board is so cute! I want to make one.

    ReplyDelete
  34. There isn't one in Chicago anymore, it was just a traveling exhibit. So cool though, to see all the costumes and props and such! You're going to love it! The waits for some of the rides can be kinda long but they're definitely worth it. Also, Butterbeer is delicious!

Ministry of Magic is really good. I also like Harry and the Potters (not the best singers but they're literally the reason wrock exists and they've got some fun songs like Cornelius Fudge is an Ass), The Remus Lupins, and Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls (their song End of An Era is beautiful, a must listen). I would also suggest watching A Very Potter Musical and its sequels by Starkid if you haven't already. Available on Youtube and they're absolutely hilarious!

  35. Thanks so much! I can't wait to check out all of these!

  36. I guess it's safe to officially say I am a fan. I went to all the midnight premieres, and still have marathons at least once a month. I have dressed up for Halloween a few times, my old cell case was HP, went to the Wizarding World in Orlando...where I cried a few times. My car says muggle and oh...my wedding invites were the Marauder's Map! I am deathly afraid of needles so the tattoo won't happen lol but, my sister in law just got me deathly hallows earrings.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Woohoo! It's always nice to find fellow Pottheads. I loved going to all of the midnight premiers! That's awesome that you still have marathons all the time! I love watching the movies sporadically. I haven't been to the Wizarding World in Orlando, but I'd love to plan a trip soon! I wouldn't be surprised if I cried too haha. You definitely are a dedicated fan! I love that your wedding invites were the Marauder's Map! How fun! If you have pictures, I'd love to see!

  38. http://themodernmusings.com/geekandnerdwed/ There are two pics on there. I have to take pictures of the RSVP cards they came with too!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Okay, seriously, those are the COOLEST wedding invites I have ever seen! I've secretly been wanting to do an HP wedding, and if I do, I will definitely be going on a hunt for those invites. They're so perfect! Also, your wedding looked absolutely gorgeous! I love all of your pictures!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lol, you are a pretty dedicated Harry Potter fan!! I read all the books, watched all the movies, want to make Harry Potter themed snacks, would love to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in FL, and got sorted into Slytherin on Pottermore.com, but I think it ends there for me! I have a couple of friends who have HP tattoos, too!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Pretty jealous of your tattoo. I want one. Also, I got a letter last year! And I have a Time Turner, I'll have to insta it one day to show you. I've never heard of the Ministry of Magic! Loving it. I can't wait for our HP World Blate. We need to make this happen ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh, and Gryffindor journal. Even though Pottermore says I'm Hufflepuff. And the trunk, the glasses, and house cups. Okay I have a whole shelf dedicated to my Harry Potter stuff. Whoops.
