Endless Bliss | Happy Lifestyle Blog: My Dog and I Have the Same Personality.

My Dog and I Have the Same Personality.

When I adopted Molly, I chose her for two main reasons 1) she was a weiner dog, which is my favorite dog, and 2) she was freaking adorable. I had been wanting to adopt a dog of my own for so long, and one of my co-workers finally talked me into it.

I had no idea that Molly and I were actually meant to be together. Unless you're a dog person, you don't understand how amazing dogs are and how each of their personalities differ so much. After a few months of us getting to know each other, we learned that we actually have a lot in common.

WE HAVE SELECTIVE HEARING
Jon can tell you best. I only hear things when I want to. Sometimes, he'll be talking for a good while, and in the middle of the story, I'll realize that I wasn't listening to him. It's not on purpose all the time. I just get distracted pretty easily. Molly is the same way, in a sense. When she's wandering around and I want her to come keep me company, I'll call her name a few times before she pays attention to me. I know what you're thinking, "maybe she's deaf," but no. About the fourth or fifth time, she'll stop whatever she's doing, give me the side eye, and then go back to her business while I continue to call her name. So maybe I'm needy for her attention, which brings me to my next point...

WE'RE NEEDY
When I'm just sitting on the couch watching TV, Molly will jump up there with me. Sometimes she'll sit right in my lap. Other times, she'll place her snout under my hand and knock it up a few times so that I'll pet her. When I'm blogging, she'll jump up and try to make me give her attention. Even right now, she's staring at me. I'm needy in that I'm lazy, and I hope that Jon will do everything for me instead of making me do it myself. Also, when he's playing his games, I like to bother him and act like I'm starved for attention.

Her "pay attention to me" face
WE PEE FAST
When I go to the bathroom, particularly in public, I'm not trying to spend any sort of excessive time in there. I go in, do my business, and get out as soon as possible. Sometimes, Molly likes to take her time and wander around the yard so she can mark her territory in various places, but for the most part, she just goes out there, does her business and comes back to the door. She's not playing around.

WE'RE SASSY
Remember that side eye I told you about? Yea, Molly is a total sass. She even walks sassy. I don't know if that should count because her body is so long, but either way, she is a such a sass. I've been called a sass a time or two in my life too.

Her "I can't even" face
WE'RE INDECISIVE
When I'm lying on the couch and I'm calling Molly's name to try to get her to jump up with me, she'll put her front legs on the couch, then put them back down and sit on the floor and stare at me. I can imagine the wheels turning in her head - "I gotta get up there. But that's a long jump up. It'll be nice just to cuddle though. Do I really want to use that much energy?" It's only when I give up on her that she decides to actually jump up there with me, and that's not even all the time.

You can ask anyone in my life, and they'll tell you that I'm indecisive. It takes me the longest time to make the simplest of decisions. Never ask me where I want to eat, because you'll starve until you have no stomach because it would have eaten itself.

WE TIRE EASILY
I am so out of shape; it's pathetic. I can't even go up a flight of stairs without tiring myself out. Molly is the same way in that when I get home from work, she's so excited to see me that she'll run around in circles and do other crazy acrobatics, and then she'll stop suddenly and just sit there panting because she's already tired herself out.

Tired or sunbathing?

WE'RE HIGH MAINTENANCE
Jon calls me high maintenance all the time. I'm not high maintenance in that I want the best and most expensive of everything; it's more that when I do want something, like a record player which I just bought, I'm obsessed with the idea of having it, and I convince Jon to let me buy it (since we're at that stage in our lives where we're sharing finances and whatnot). I'm high maintenance in other ways too, but we'll just stick with that for now.

Molly is super high maintenance as well. She's eats the most expensive dog food. She's too mature to play with toys. She doesn't sleep on the floor; she has to sleep on one of her three beds - an actual dog bed, a palette made of an old comforter, and a giant stuffed animal. She has her own insurance plan for the vet. When it comes to high maintenance pets, she pretty much takes the cake. She's a princess, and she's so worth it.

It's so weird how much my dog and I have in common, and Jon points out our similarities all the time. I love her dearly, and I'm so happy that my precious pup takes after her mom.

Do you have a dog? What do you love about your dog?

  6. Ha! I love this post! And what a cute dog, makes me want one really badly, until I remember that my three children are basically like my pets and I really don't need someone else to feed and clean up after. :)

  8. I love dogs! We adopted a mutt about four years ago, and it was one of the best decisions we've ever made. You and your pup are PRECIOUS! Also, my daughter (who is obsessed with dogs) thinks you've won the internet for today--she's made me scroll up and down this post about ten times, all while she points to pictures of Molly and screams "DOGGEE!"

I have a Shiba Inu and she is my world, right next to my daughter. She was my first baby and she will always be more important than anything. She is SO loving and intuitive. She is the only thing in this world that can make me feel better when I have a bad day. She is always there for me and I love her more than anything. I am so glad you found a soulmate ;)

  11. Loooove this! The only thing my dog and I disagree on is selfie. I think Summer is a wee bit camera shy :( even when I attempt to take a photo of her, she just knows I got a camera in hand or something!
