Ranking of Taylor Swift's Music Videos

ranking of taylor swift's music videos
Paulo Villanueva
Since Taylor Swift's music video for "Bad Blood" dropped on Sunday, I thought it would be the appropriate time to take a road trip down memory through Taylor's music videos. I know I've mentioned being a fan of hers since she had frizzy curls and cowgirl boots, but whether she's singing country or the latest pop ballad, I'm standing behind her screaming all of the lyrics. These are my rankings of T. Swift's music videos.

Side note: This was the hardest ranking I've ever done in my entire life.

24 // CHANGE
I do enjoy the song, but the video leaves something to be desired.

23 // OUR SONG
As much as I love this song (and as adorable as Taylor looks in her princess dress), the music video doesn't live up to its full potential. I would have loved to see a story play out rather than her just singing in a bunch of different outfits.

22 // FIFTEEN
I think this music video would have been much better without the random whimsical things growing and flying out of nowhere. "Fifteen" has such an amazing message for teenagers, and I think music video should have shown that. I would have loved Abigail to do something more dramatic when that guy screws her over.

21 // TIM MCGRAW
The music video that started it all.

20 // STYLE
I just don't know what to say about this music video. It has some cute moments and some weird moments. I more enjoyed the cute parts, but it was mostly weird parts. I do like the artiness of it, but I pictured the music video for "Style" much different.

19 // SAFE & SOUND
This video really shows how naturally beautiful Taylor Swift is. Seriously, this girl is flawless.

18 // MEAN
Taylor sends such an awesome message with this video. People are so mean for no reason, and think she did a good job showing that people are made of for reasons as small as wearing a different colored bow on their dress.

17 // BACK TO DECEMBER
I love this song. I love the message. I love Taylor's vulnerability while singing it. I think a lot of people can relate. All that said, nothing really happened. It's a nice video, but it's not one that I'd go back and watch over and over.

16 // WHITE HORSE
Heart. Breaking. And sadly, a harsh reality for a lot of girls at some point in their lives.

15 // THE STORY OF US
I love this song because it compares relationships to books. I love this music video because Taylor Swift goes crazy in a library.

14 // WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER
The perfect depiction of what to do after you break up with someone - have a party in your PJs.

13 // BEGIN AGAIN
It's hard not to enjoy this music video when it was shot in Paris!

12 // BAD BLOOD
There was a lot happening in this video. Watching it after watching the video for "Tim McGraw" really showed how far she's come as far as music video budgets are concerned. I think I would have liked to see more fight scenes rather than just introductions of everyone. When she was showing the video posters for all of the people in the video, I thought it was going to be a long video that told a super long story. I really enjoyed it though and watched it quite a few times. I think my favorite scene is the beginning one with Catastrophe and Arsyn kickin' butt and takin' names. Also, Taylor looks badass with red hair.

11 // TEARDROPS ON MY GUITAR
I think this video show an arrow through a lot of girls' hearts. This song alone is so relatable, but the video just really hits home.

10 // MINE
I really love the escalation of this music video. So much love. So much adorable. T. Swift is going to make the most precious mama.

9 // OURS
This is one of my favorite songs by Taylor Swift. It's just so adorable and describes how I feel about Jon. The thing I love most about this video is that it perfectly depicts how Taylor Swift's hair would would look if she worked a 9-5. Plus, it shows that even if you have a crappy day at work, you get to go home to the one you love, and that  makes everything better. I also love that her boyfriend is a soldier.

8 // I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE
I like this video because it's like a mini film with dialogue and flashbacks and a story to tell.

7 // PICTURE TO BURN
"Picture to Burn" is one of my favorite songs by Taylor (the version with the "That's fine, I'll tell mine you're gay" line), and the video shows a dramatic version of what every girl would like to do to their slimy ex-boyfriends.

6 // 22
This video depicts pretty much everything I want to do with my girlfriends on a daily basis. Just so much fun and cuteness all around.

5 // EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED
I was so obsessed with this music video with mini Taylor Swift and mini Ed Sheeran. They're so quirky and obviously meant to be biffles. That part with them doing yoga. Plus, that magic marker insanity. To cute for words.

4 // LOVE STORY
How can you not love this music video? It's classic Romeo and Juliet. Taylor looks gorgeous. Romeo is handsome as all get out. It's like a modern fairy tale told in four minutes.

3 // SHAKE IT OFF
It's hard not to adore this music video. I love seeing Taylor try and fail at all of these different dance genres. It definitely makes you want to get up and dance along (which I do...often).

2 // BLANK SPACE
The outfits alone are absolutely incredible. Add in Taylor's insanity, an adorable picnic, Taylor standing on a horse, the ruining of an expensive car, and one of my favorite songs from the album, and you have a work of art.

1 // YOU BELONG WITH ME
I don't know how any video could replace my love of this one. It was so fun to see two different Taylor personalities. Plus, it's such a fun video where Taylor let's her dork flag fly. How can you not love that long hair part and huge glasses? Not to mention, Lucas Till. *Swoon*

What are your favorite Taylor Swift videos? What are your thoughts on the "Bad Blood" music video?

  1. I love this post because I got to listen to all her old songs. While her new songs are fun and catchy I really miss the old Taylor. Thanks for the walk down memory lane :)

  4. I'm a huge Taylor Fan. I wasn't a fan of her Bad Blood video that premiered last night, but I'm willing to overlook that since I'm going to her concert on Friday!!

  5. Taylor really has come a long ways in her personal style development and music video development. I think Blank Space is my favorite of all time but I also adore You Belong with Me, White Horse (just rings so true) and Shake it off. I think Bad Blood was pretty bad ass but also wished there was more of a story line and less introductions. The whole premise was just including as many of her bffs as possible.

  7. Love this! I have been listening to TSwift forever and I always forget how long sh'es been in the business. I love the Blank Space video soooo much. White Horse might have to be one of my favorite songs though. After a bad breakup I played it on repeat for months ha.

  8. You belong with me is a classic. Taylor came such a long way since her Tim McGraw days!

  9. I was a bit disappointed in Bad Blood because as you said there was simply SO many people and all they really did was get introduced. That was the entire video. While it was cool after all the hype I was totally wishing for more. Blank Space probably wins my top spot just because she looks so fierce and fabulous and the storyline is great. It's crazy seeing how much her videos have progressed over the years.

  10. Right?! I watched every single one of these videos when making this list, and it brought me back.

  11. I love "Blank Space!" That'll probably be the best video she makes from this album. I love Taylor too!

  15. She's definitely evolved so much, but I still adore some of her older videos. "Shake It Off" is such a fun video and song! I love it!

  16. Not gonna lie--I think I've only seen 5 of her music videos, but You Belong With Me and Love Story will likely always be my favorites. Off to check out the rest! <3

  17. She really has! It used to be her simply singing with a guy helping to tell her story. Her "Bad Blood" video is a huge contrast compared to everything she's done in the past. I love "Blank Space" too. It's such a good video! I feel the same way about "Bad Blood." I wish there was more story. Most of the people in the video served no purpose.

  19. "You Belong With Me" may forever be my favorite music video. I just love it so much! She's definitely come a long way since "Tim McGraw!"

  20. I am normally not a big music video person but I have seen a couple of these! It is definitely interesting to see how her music style and music video budget has changed over the years.

  21. I was too! I feel like most of the people in the video had no purpose other than just being there. Like you, I thought that with all of the hype, it was going to be a much more epic video. "Blank Space" is an awesome video. I love it so much! She's definitely come a long way with her music videos since the "Tim McGraw" days.

  22. Those are two of the best! I love them so much!

  23. She really has progressed so much both with her songs and music videos. It was fun watching all of these and seeing how much she's changed.

  24. You Belong with Me and Everything Has Changed are my favorites. I also can't believe how many T Swift music videos I just watched...

  27. I love all of these, and obviously I love T-Swift!! I'm a huge fan of her country days, but man can I rock out to Shake it Off!

  28. I loved this post!! So fun. So fun story- "Mine" was shot in my hometown in Maine and I actually saw Taylor filming interviews after the filming of the video wrapped up and the church for the final scene! (As I write this comment on your blog post I'm at our local library which is about 1/4 a mile from that church!). Ironically I will be talking about that in my own blog post on Thursday though so stay tuned!!!! :-)

I am so partial to "Our Song" - my favorite TS song EVER so I was sad you ranked it so low. ;-) Lol! But totally agree with you on Style.... in my honest opinion I'm not a big fan of 1989 and Style was on of the few songs that I really liked, but I thought she could have really told a story with the video and what actually happened was kind of weird! But so many of hers are great.

    Fun post!

  29. Blank Space was my favorite... mostly because of her outfits. I loved the vintage, retro vibe of that video!

  30. I'm totally with you on the top 5!!! (though I would move "Mine" up the list, I love when she's singing in the trees with all the photos hanging)

    The new video is awesome.

  31. Haha right?! I watched every single one of these when I was making this post. Everything Has Changed is so dang cute! I love those little kids.

  32. She's definitely come a long way since "Time McGraw." I love "Love Story" too! It's such a cute video and amazing song.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm the same way! I love when she's singing country and singing pop. Just a fan all around. She knows how to make a hit!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Omg! That's so cool! I'm so jealous. I've only ever seen her in concert, which is awesome, but I think seeing her film a video would be so neat. Can't wait to read your post!

I love "Our Song" too! I'm just not a fan of the video. I wish she would have made a story out of it rather than just singing in random outfits. I'm glad you agree with me on "Style." I watched that video with a look of "what?" on my face. She could have done so much with it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Seriously, ranking these was so hard because I only really didn't like 3-ish of her videos. "Mine" is such a cute video, and I loved seeing her as a little grown-up. So cute.

    ReplyDelete
  36. As I was scrolling down I was thinking "You Belong With Me" HAS to be number 1. AND IT WAS!! So on point haha. I don't think I could even begin to rank her videos, kudos to you!

  37. I don't know if "You Belong With Me" could ever be replaced. I just love it so much! It was so hard putting these in order! They're all so good.

  38. Blank Space is in my top 5 too!
    Taylor is my queen.
    I love her.

  39. My favorite Music video by Taylor Swift thus far is Everything has Changed. There are a few music videos here that I didn't know existed. I will have to watch 'em soon. I did wish there was more of a story in the Bad Blood video but thought it was cool to see a variety of people in it.

  40. "Everything Has Changed" definitely tugs at some heartstrings. It's so adorable. I wish there was more of a story to "Bad Blood" too. It's really only prevalent at the beginning and the end. Everything in between is just fluff and introductions.

  41. I loved "Blank Space" too. I love when she goes psycho, and I definitely wanted ALL of her outfits.
