Things to do Instead of Adulting

things to do instead of adulting

I'm not gonna lie - some days, I just really don't feel like adulting. More often than not, I'd rather sleep in and do everything in bed - read, watch Netflix, eat, go back to sleep. Sometimes, being an adult is just so daunting. Between waking up early, paying the bills, cooking my own meals and endless cleaning, it's just all too much. Can't I just be a kid again? If I could put off being an adult for a little while, I would...

...travel to a place I've never been before.
I have so many places I'd like to visit, and it's like every day, my list of dream destinations continues to grow. Australia is definitely number one, but there are so many more. If I didn't have to go to work and make money to, ya know, live, I would be traveling the world.

...go out to dinner and order a bottle of wine.
I've always wanted to do this, but buying a bottle of wine at a restaurant is exponentially more expensive than just buying one glass, which I'm more apt to do. One and done, my friends.

...read all the books on my TBR list.
Imagine how much reading I'd get done if I didn't have to do all of the adult things on my to-do list! I'd be one happy bookworm and just read all the time.

...dye my hair a crazy color.
I've always wanted to dye my hair, but there was always a reason not to, usually school and/or work. If I didn't have to adult, I would go crazy and dye my hair a random color like purple or red.

...buy a bike.
I want a bike so much, but it'd be almost pointless for me to make the investment because I have no time to ride it. Oh, the places I'd go if I had the time though.

...pull an all-nighter just to watch a TV show on my Netflix list.
If I didn't have to sleep, I'd watch all the shows on my Netflix list. So much TV, so little time.

...finish editing my book.
It's so hard for me to divide my time between work, blogging and YouTube. Add in book editing, and my head is spinning with all of the things I have to do. I need to stop being so ambitious. If I didn't have to adult, I'd have so much more time to finish my book

...paint.
I remember when I had time to paint. I'm not really good at it, but painting is something that just makes me happy. It's calming and fun, and I love showing my paintings to Jon, because he always tells me they're beautiful even when they're not.

...take a bath.
I don't remember the last time I took a bath. I wish I had more time for them. I'd take them all the time and use all the bath bombs.

...go glamping.
I'd love to get a cabin in the woods, spend some time on the lake and just unplug, but who has time for that?

If you could put off being an adult for a little while, what would you want to do?

  1. I love these! I would definitely travel more and paint my hair purple if I could!

  2. I would totally love to go to a fancy restaurant an order a bottle of wine. But even when we go to a non-fancy restaurant, the wine bottles are too expensive still! Hello, $6 bottle of Riesling from the liquor store. I wish we could just shirk off responsibilities and travel for a year. Or wine my way through the world! Yeah, that's what I want to do.

  5. Netflix is a killer! Last fall I discovered Revenge and watched all 3 seasons in about 2 weeks! I love this list about not adulting (:

  6. I love Netflix. I have found shows I never bothered watching on regular tv, then I wondered why I never watched them. I did stop adulting long enough to put purple tips in my hair. Not bad for a "mature" woman. lol

  7. Glamping: love it. I'm going Glamping at the end of this summer in Montana for about two nights. The rest of the trip, which is about two weeks long, will be spent in an actual tent. On the ground. With no comfy bed. Wish me luck with that.

  9. You had me at wine.... 39 weeks without wine has got me on edge! One more week! Phew!

  10. A bike is at the top of my summer wish list. I'm also deciding if it is worth the investment aka if I would make enough time to actually ride it!

  11. I am actually going glamping this weekend haha.
But yes, I would do all the things if I didn't have to go to work and participate in the real world.

  12. That is awesome that you are working on a book! And on the wine thing- here's something my friends and I have been doing. There's a couple restaurants around town that do things like half of bottle of wine nights. You get 2-3 other people together and it can end up being cheaper than getting individual drinks! And totally agree on the bath thing. The idea sounds awesome, actually doing it is a whole other thing. lol

  13. You could always go to dinner with some girlfriends and split a bottle of wine! I've done that before :) I took my time in college to dye my hair a crazy color. lol I miss it but I don't at the same time. But I also want a bike!! I want a mountain bike, and I want to take it into the trails in the Arizona mountains to go biking. Ugh. I need more money though. lol.

  14. What fun ideas. Adult life is hard, and my list of things I'd rather be doing grows every day! Travel is absolutely high on the list. Thanks for sharing!

  15. I love this! Adult life is definitely difficult. Luckily, I get to hold on for a little bit longer before I live on my own after graduation! I say you should set some time aside to really not be an adult...just SOMETIMES!

  16. The list is endless, but...I'd run around with the dogs at the rescue I used to volunteer at, read everything on my to-be-read list, watch all the movies/TV shows I've fallen behind on/never got the chance to see yet, write my personal statement, play piano, play video games, work out more, go back home-home to take fun classes...

I'm kinda sad now. D: SOMEDAY.

  17. What a great post idea! I have to say save every penny you can and go to Australia, it will be absolutely worth it! Also find a restauraunt or bar that does half priced bottles of wine (usually Wednesdays or Thursdays), take a wine loving friend and split the bottle cost! The $60 bottle becomes $30 of which you only pay $15... Which is probably close to the price of one glass. Boom!

  18. You're righting a book! Whoa! Maybe I haven't been around enough to hear about that, but I'm pumped for you! I just graduated and totally don't feel like adulting just yet haha. I've got my own list going already. ;)

  19. I adore this! I just started writing my book and I find that even though its finally summer between my internship, full time job, blogging and day to day activities, it really is hard to make a dent! Great post! I adore this! If I could put off being an adult I'd drive off to a lake pull up a comfy chair with some fruit and just laze around reading and writing all day. #livingthedream maybe one day....

  20. I've always wanted to pull a Netflix all-nighter too! Probs would die at work the next day but it would be so worth it! We should pull an all-nighter together one time! Like a virtual slumber party :)

  27. I took one the other day, and it was so fabulous. I didn't want to get out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's so fun! I wish I had a cruiser bike!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would be such a good rich person. I would do so much traveling and of course give back! Haha. Being a grown up is such a hindrance sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes! That would be the best slumber party ever!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It really is! I feel like I have so much to do that I just work on each thing a little bit at a time so barely anything gets done! That sounds like the perfect not-adult day!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I participated in NaNoWriMo last year, and I've been trying to polish my book ever since! It's just frustrating because I know what I want my book to be, but making major changes is such a burden! Yay for graduating! That's so exciting! Don't adult as long as you can haha!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I want to go to Australia so bad! That's such an awesome idea for wine! I never thought of that. You seriously have the best ideas. You're feeding my need for wine!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Haha it does kind of make you sad when you lay it all out like that. Being adult just holds us back sometimes! There's too much fun to be had and not enough time to have it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yes! Hold on to it as long as you can! Haha. I definitely need to set aside some not-adult time. It would make life so much more pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Travel is definitely my #1. There are so many awesome places to be seen!

    ReplyDelete
  37. That's such an awesome idea! I really need to do that. I want more money too! I feel like everything I want to do just requires more money. Boo!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like that idea, Abby! I need to look into some restaurant wine specials. I'm sure there's a few around here.

    ReplyDelete
  39. That's so fun! I want to go glamping so bad!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I can totally see you with pink in you hair!

  41. I want a bike so bad! I have the same internal argument. I think I want it then I wonder if I'd actually use it.

  42. 39 weeks! So. Long. Can't. Fathom.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hate those days! I just want a few days that are worry- and responsibility-free! Too much to ask?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I really need to start making baths a priority.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's so fun! I'm so jealous. That sounds like it's going to be awesome. I haven't been tent camping in a long time, so you'll have to let me know how that goes!

    ReplyDelete
  46. That sounds like exactly what I'd like to do too!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yes! That's #1 list. I just want to go everywhere and experience life in other parts of the world!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've done the same thing! Netflix helps me discover all the shows I didn't give a chance before, and then I get sad that they were canceled. I'm so jealous of your purple tips! I hope I can dye or streak my hair a crazy color one day.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love Revenge! That show really sucks you in. I'm sad that it's over, but I think it was time. The storyline was getting a little stale. The first two seasons were the best!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Netflix and I have a love/hate relationship. Mostly love.

    ReplyDelete
  51. When we finally meet in person, ordering a bottle of wine is going to be a priority. I'm all about those $6 bottles. I would love to just travel for a year (and not pay for it). That would be the life! Wine around the world?! Hello, life dream.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I would love to travel to so many places. Purple hair would be so awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Australia truly is worth it so save up! I was lucky to go as a student ambassador but it's a dream to go back. Haha well it's a holiday weekend so wine it up girl!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Come on down to Australia girllll :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gosh your non-adult day list sounds like so much fun. I, too, wish I could dye my hair a crazy color (alas insurance sales require a professional appearance). Glamping sounds perfect this time of year.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I wish dying your hair a crazy color wasn't considered unprofessional. Think Hunger Games, but not as crazy haha.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Travel the world! I dream about leaving everything behind and traveling on the daily.

  59. I'd do all these things too! Sometimes I wish I could take a break from adulting too! Although I do make room in my schedule for baths. They help me relax, it's lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I so want to add pink in my hair but I know that won't fly. Specially with my new job. Bath are wonderful. You so should schedule time for one.
