Can I just talk about my dog all day?

So this past weekend, I got a dog. I know I typed that out like all casual like, but really I'm freaking out about it. I'm sure my co-workers are sick of hearing about her, but I refuse to stop talking about her, because I'm absolutely obsessed, which I'm sure those of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter have already noticed. Growing up, I always had a dog. Up until I was 15 and moved in with my mom. We adopted a puppy for about 2 months, and then gave him away because he was tearing up the house. Tragic, really.

This is a picture of Molly at the shelter. Her eyes look so sad because she was waiting for me to come save her!
Anyway, I adopted my dog, Molly, from a no kill shelter here called Pet Savers. Molly is the name they used for her at the shelter, and I chose not to change it since she was probably used to it. She doesn't actually answer to her name though. We'll get there. She's an adult dog, but they don't really know anything else about her, other than her previous owner died in a tragic industrial accident a few years back. She's been in the shelter ever since. She's a dachshund mix, but they're not sure what she's mixed with. She looks part beagle. I'm taking her to the vet soon, so hopefully he can tell me what she's mixed with and how old young she is.

I went on the Pet Savers website on a whim at work one day, and I saw Molly and fell in love. The next day, I went to the shelter to visit her, and I fell even more in love. I had to have her. I paid the deposit that day, and the next day, I drove up to get her.

At the shelter, they told me that she will probably be timid, depressed and skittish at first. She doesn't really like people that much. They said that any prior leash training and potty training would be out the door because she's been in the shelter for so long. All of that proved to be untrue. She took to me almost immediately. She licked my hand and jumped on me. When I took her on her first walk, she was brilliant on the leash, and she has yet to use the bathroom inside. It took her awhile to start eating, but she's finally doing that regularly as of Monday. Sometimes she growls at me when I try to pick her up, but she's slowly but surely beginning to trust me. She definitely recognizes me as her mother.

She was perfect on the leash. Though I did have her collar a little too loose and she escaped, not that she ran far.

Our first picture together. We're in love.

Officially official. She's all mine.

Perfect selfie partner. She never says no, and she loves giving me kisses.
I'm just absolutely obsessed with Molly, and I think we were just meant to be. She's the perfect dog, and I just love her so much! It was a pretty rash decision, but it's the best rash decision I've ever made, and now I can cross this off of my 30 before 30 list!

No more sad eyes.

She's definitely made herself at home.

Have you ever adopted a shelter dog? Or any dog? What was your experience like?
