Can I just talk about my dog all day?

So this past weekend, I got a dog. I know I typed that out like all casual like, but really I'm freaking out about it. I'm sure my co-workers are sick of hearing about her, but I refuse to stop talking about her, because I'm absolutely obsessed, which I'm sure those of you who follow me on Instagram and Twitter have already noticed. Growing up, I always had a dog. Up until I was 15 and moved in with my mom. We adopted a puppy for about 2 months, and then gave him away because he was tearing up the house. Tragic, really.

This is a picture of Molly at the shelter. Her eyes look so sad because she was waiting for me to come save her!
Anyway, I adopted my dog, Molly, from a no kill shelter here called Pet Savers. Molly is the name they used for her at the shelter, and I chose not to change it since she was probably used to it. She doesn't actually answer to her name though. We'll get there. She's an adult dog, but they don't really know anything else about her, other than her previous owner died in a tragic industrial accident a few years back. She's been in the shelter ever since. She's a dachshund mix, but they're not sure what she's mixed with. She looks part beagle. I'm taking her to the vet soon, so hopefully he can tell me what she's mixed with and how old young she is.

I went on the Pet Savers website on a whim at work one day, and I saw Molly and fell in love. The next day, I went to the shelter to visit her, and I fell even more in love. I had to have her. I paid the deposit that day, and the next day, I drove up to get her.

At the shelter, they told me that she will probably be timid, depressed and skittish at first. She doesn't really like people that much. They said that any prior leash training and potty training would be out the door because she's been in the shelter for so long. All of that proved to be untrue. She took to me almost immediately. She licked my hand and jumped on me. When I took her on her first walk, she was brilliant on the leash, and she has yet to use the bathroom inside. It took her awhile to start eating, but she's finally doing that regularly as of Monday. Sometimes she growls at me when I try to pick her up, but she's slowly but surely beginning to trust me. She definitely recognizes me as her mother.

She was perfect on the leash. Though I did have her collar a little too loose and she escaped, not that she ran far.

Our first picture together. We're in love.

Officially official. She's all mine.

Perfect selfie partner. She never says no, and she loves giving me kisses.
I'm just absolutely obsessed with Molly, and I think we were just meant to be. She's the perfect dog, and I just love her so much! It was a pretty rash decision, but it's the best rash decision I've ever made, and now I can cross this off of my 30 before 30 list!

No more sad eyes.

She's definitely made herself at home.

Have you ever adopted a shelter dog? Or any dog? What was your experience like?

  2. Molly is adorable! I'm sure you'll be very happy together!

We have an old, shelter dog. He was 5 when we got him, and he's 12 now and looking and acting older by the day, it's very sad but he's lovely although in his younger days he was a bit too independent and used to escape a lot. We also have a 5 year old, who we got as a puppy, we stopped her going to a shelter. A nightmare when she was young but an absolute angel now and we wouldn't be without her! x

  3. Aww Molly is so cute. All my dogs have been find on the street or give to me. I have never adopted a dog before. I have a dog name Priscilla who is living about in the state with my MIL. Man how i miss her. I was working at a grocery store and I was ringing up a lady. I was telling her about my parents dog and she asked if I would like a dog. She find Priscilla out side of an apartment building and no one was around. She put ads up saying she find a lost dog. No one called. So when she asked if I wanted Priscilla. I told her I would have to get back to her after I talk to my Husband. He said yes. So I called the lady up and got Priscilla I have had her for almost 10 years now. I have picture of her in some of my blog post. Sorry this comment is so long.

Congrats on being a dog owner again.

  4. Molly is so cute! I know exactly how you're feeling. I just adopted a dog last weekend and I'm completely obsessed with her. She's a miniature pinscher and the sweetest, cutest thing ever. I would spend all day with her if I could!

  5. What a cutie! And YES you can talk about your dog all day because I do it all the time and to me that's socially acceptable! Mine are like my children! :) Haha.

  6. Awwwww yay! I'm so glad you got a dog! There are so many dogs that need to be rescued, so I'm glad you went that route - especially with an adult dog! Molly seems so great and she is so super cote! Congrats on your new lil bestie!! :)

  7. She's so cute! I think it's totally normal to be obsessed with your dog. I definitely am. We adopted two years ago, and Bella had a lot of social anxiety at first, but she's gotten so much better! Molly will too :)

  8. Molly really is like my child. She's so spoiled, and she doesn't even know it. I just need to have more friends with dogs, because they'll understand wanting to talk about dogs all day! I really do talk about her all the time. Oops.

  9. Molly is adorrrrrrrrrrrable!! Awww, she looks so happy! I adopted my first dog a few summers ago. Her name was originally Daisy but I noticed she doesn't respond to Daisy so I renamed her Summer which surprisingly, she adapted to very quickly! I was told that Summer grew up in an abusive home so she gets scared really easily and doesn't know how to play with toys. But nonetheless, she eats like a monster, haha.

  10. Thank you! That's so sweet that you adopted Summer! Molly doesn't respond to Molly. I was going to change it, but I was already so used to Molly. Summer is a super cute name. What a sad past! She's so lucky that you saved her!

  13. She's actually named Bellatrix, like in Harry Potter. When we first got her, she had been abused, but she was still proud and strong. Bellatrix means beautiful warror, so that's what we named her! :)

  14. What an awesome name! I love Harry Potter so much, so obviously I think any HP-related name is brilliant! Aww!

  15. I never thought it was possible to love a dog so much! I just talk about her all day and worry about her way too much. You definitely NEED to get a dog. It just makes life so much happier!

  16. She is precious, and I'm already in love. She's so perfect. That's so awesome that you adopted 2 shelter dogs! It's a much different experience than adopting puppies. I think adopting shelter dogs is the way to go! So great that both of your dogs stories ended up being fairy tales! They're so lucky to have such patient owners! A lot of people would have given the dogs back if they weren't good to start off with. Some people just don't have the patience!

  17. So awesome that we both just got dogs! I definitely wish I could spend all day with Molly. I'm sure my co-workers wish I could too because I can't stop talking about her!
