Endless Bliss | Happy Lifestyle Blog: Summer Reading List.

Summer Reading List.

So summer doesn't officially start until the end of June, but in Louisiana, summer weather seems to come a little earlier. I'm already suffering from heat stroke. Not really, but I'm sweating all the freaking time. Super cute, I know.

While I'm on my way to and from Gulf Shores and Europe this summer, I'm excited to get in some summer reading. These are a few books on my to-read list next season.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
I adore Jenny Han. She's adorable, sweet and an incredibly talented writer. To All the Boys I've Loved Before is her latest novel, and it's about a girl whose secret box of letters that she's written to all of her past crushes is discovered and distributed. She is forced to face each of them individually. This book sounds right up my alley, and I just have a feeling I'm going to l-o-v-e it. Not to mention, I just won this book in a giveaway hosted by Mochi Magazine. I can't wait to get it in the mail!

The Giver by Lois Lowry
When I saw the preview for this movie when I went to see Divergent, I was so intrigued by the concept. I know this book was released ages ago, but I never read it. Now that the movie is coming out, naturally I need to read the book before I go see it.

The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line (Veronica Mars #1) by Rob Thomas
Rob Thomas is one of my favorite people. He's so talented and so funny, and I cannot wait to read this book. It picks up right where the Veronica Mars movie leaves off.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
I loved Eleanor & Park, which is the first book that I read by Rainbow Rowell. I've heard great things about Fangirl, and I can't wait to dive into this book.

A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
I've heard great things about this book and can't believe that I haven't read it yet. It's been recommended to me by several people. The book is actually the first of a trilogy, so if it's as good as people are saying it is, perhaps I'll read all three.

What books are you looking forward to reading this summer?

Meet one of my May sponsors, Claire!

I'm Claire, the blogger behind Refining Bliss! I'm a graduate public health student living in the midwest, and I love to de-stress with crafts, baking and blogging. Refining Bliss is a lifestyle blog where I write about family, food, and daily goings on. Enjoy, blissfully.

Name 5 things that make you happy.
(Is it bad that all of the first things that come to mind are food?) Spending time with family, traveling, wine, finishing a craft/DIY project, and chocolate peanut butter ice cream.

If I could live a day in the life of anyone, who would you choose and why?
I would choose Mindy Kaling. I like to think that I'm funny, but she'sactually hilarious. Plus she's best friends with B.J. Novak, and that's one of my life goals.

What song are you currently obsessed with?
I am absolutely obsessed with the song Get Me Some of That by Thomas Rhett. For me, summer time = country music time. There's something about driving with the windows down, blaring country music that is just so wonderful. (I guess that's #6 for what makes me happy!) The song is so catchy, and I like to think that he's singing about me. A girl can dream, right?

What makes you awesome?
What doesn't? Just kidding! According to Google, my red hair makes me awesome. Personally, I think that my sense of humor and overall love of life make me pretty special. (And not like Gilmore Girls "stop eating the paste" special.) Check out more on my blog!

  7. I'm really looking forward to reading To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I love everything I've read by Jenny Han so far, so hopefully this one is good too! I didn't realize A Great and Terrible Beauty was a series at first. Now I HAVE to read it to see how it ends!

  8. So happy that you love books as much as I do! My sister read The Giver in school too, but I never had to. Fangirl sounds like such a random concept for a book, and it has me intrigued.

  16. I read A Great and Terrible Beauty not long after it came out and, while I can't remember much about it, I remember that I loved it.

  17. Oh geez I have so many books on my Kindle that I need to get to. I am in the process of reading Divergent but I feel like I need to go on another road trip to finish.. So busy around the house to read.

  18. I haven't heard of many of these books, but they look really interesting. I have to get better about reading! It's just so hard, haha.

  19. I haven't read The Summer I Turned Pretty, but my sister has, and she loves it! Jenny Han is an awesome author. She's such an inspiration too!

  20. So happy you love reading too! I've heard amazing things about A Great and Terrible Beauty! I can't wait to read it!

  21. I'm really excited to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before. It's gotten overall pretty good reviews, and I've liked anything I've read by Jenny Han, so I have high hopes for it. I guess I need to read The Giver soon! I've heard mixed reviews about it.

  22. Thank you! I love reading, and can't wait to do it as much as I can this summer.

  23. I haven't read The Summer I Turned Pretty yet. My sister has it, and I'm hoping to borrow it soon! She loved the series. Jenny Han is so amazing. She is such an inspiration to Asians. I got to meet her this past summer, and she was so sweet!

  24. I do the same thing! I remember liking it, but don't remember what it was about. I've only heard good things about that book, so I'm hoping to read it soon!

  25. I have so many books on my bookshelf that I've bought at thrift stores, but haven't read them yet because I keep going to the library! Bookworm problems. Divergent is really good! The first book was my favorite and the second book was my least favorite. I hope you get time to finish it soon!

  26. I find it so hard to find time to read during winter and spring, but for some reason, even though my schedule doesn't really change at all, it seems like I have more time in the summer to read. Road trips are my favorite time to catch up on reading, and of course while I'm laying on the beach!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ah! Now I can't wait to read it! If you finished it in one day, it must be so good! I've only heard good things about it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh no! That's not good. When I saw the trailer for the movie, I thought it looked interesting, so I'm curious to see what they change. A Great and Terrible Beauty made you cry?! I heard that the ending is unexpected or shocking or something. I can't wait to read the series! I'm so excited about reading the Veronica Mars book. I haven't bought it yet, but I just love VM so much, so I'm sure I'll love the book too!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well when I had to read it, it was for a class in high school so I had to psychoanalyze the book and everything, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much! If you read into the deeper meanings of the book I think it's easier to appreciate the book and its meaning.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It seems like I'm the only person who didn't have to read this book for school! Even my sister did. I really like analyzing books that make you think. That's why I loved Lord of the Flies so much!

  31. I've heard a lot about rainbow rowell and her books have received positive reviews! And all the others on your list are new to me so Im gonna give them a read! THough Ive seen the trailer of The Giver.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. oooh great books! i read the great and terrible beauty one many many years ago. i am pretty sure when i read it the others werent out, or something because i never read the other 2. you'll have to let me know if its worth picking up again!

  33. The Giver is such a great book! Not too sure how the movie will turn out, but the book will not disappoint!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I loved Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, so I think this one will be good too. I'm excited to read and see The Giver.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I will! I'm excited to read the series.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've heard some people already aren't excited about the movie adaptation of The Giver just from seeing the trailer. I'm excited for both though.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh meep! I don't want to scare you off from seeing the movie! It could be very good, just very different. I'm getting better at separating book from film but it's hard xD

I should say the third book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy made me cry. Definitely a shocking ending, but I still can't help but love it! (And if you like this series, you should check out The Diviners!) Always great to meet another VM fan :D

  38. It's so hard to separate books and movies. They really are two totally separate entities. Books that make people cry are usually good. I cried like a baby when I finished The Fault in Our Stars.

And yes, I rarely find people who like Veronica Mars, so it makes me happy when I find another fan too!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oooh... "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" looks intriguing! I'll have to add it to my summer list! :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I just started reading it. I can't wait to see what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I need to have a summer reading list! I love the Giver and A Great and a Terrible Beauty! Not a fan of how the series ended for A Great and a Terrible Beauty though :( The cover of To All the Boys I Loved Before seems to be intriguing..might be something worth checking out!

  42. We are on the same wavelength with our book posts today :) I read The Giver in school forever ago and remember not liking it, BUT I think I need to read it again! I haven't read Eleanor & Park, but have always thought Fangirl sounded good!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I just finished reading Fangirl yesterday. Haha. I started and finished it all in one day. So I guess that's an idea of what reading it may be like. It's pretty good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I have to say, I am NOT looking forward to The Giver movie >.< I can tell from the trailer that they've changed a lot of key points to make it more marketable, and I am not happy. But the book is great! And so is A Great and Terrible Beauty...that series makes me cry! Fangirl is on my own summer reading list...and I really should add the Veronica Mars book! (I can't believe I forgot about it!)
