My Favorite Mashups.

favorite song mashups
I've talked about music a time or two on this blog, but something I've never talked about is mashups. I seriously love mashups. The first mash-up I ever fell in love with was with Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Oasis's "Wonderwall." Talk about a flawless combination. I actually preferred it to the original "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," because it sounded so amazing.
My love for mashups has not subsided, and with so many talented people in the world, there are so many mashups to be heard and fall in love with! These are a few of my favorites:

Calvin Harris's "Summer" and Disclosure's "Latch" performed by The Gardiner Sisters
I've mentioned the Gardiner Sisters before, because I adore them so much. They're all so pretty and so sweet and funny, and I have total girl crushes on the main three in the group - Mandy, Hailey, and Allie. Mandy is my absolute fave, but I digress. This mashup is so sultry, and the way they put them together makes it sound like the two were meant to be sung together. When I first heard it, I seriously listened to is several times a day every day for about two weeks straight. A good portion of those views are thanks to yours truly, so you're welcome Gardiner Sisters.

Lil Wayne's "How to Love" (+ several other songs) mashup performed by Ashley Birch
Ashley is actually a person that I went to school with, and she has no idea who I am so I almost feel creepy posting her video. She performed this mashup at the talent show my senior year, and it was so incredible. On a whim, I did a search to see if she had a YouTube channel, and I was thrilled when I discovered it, because the mashup is amazing. Don't let the comfy sweats and v-neck deter you from watching this video, because I assure you, she's so talented, and the stream of songs that she puts together to make this mashup is #flawless.

1989 mashup performed by Kurt Hugo Schneider and Sam Tsui
Y'all already know I love me some Taylor Swift, and this mashup includes EVERY SINGLE SONG from 1989. They streamed all of the songs together so flawlessly. I'm already a fan of Kurt and Sam, but this mashup just further solidified it.

NYSNC medley performed by Pentatonix
Okay, y'all. NYSNC is my shiz. I was always Team NSYNC, and when I first discovered this, I seriously shared it with everyone I knew because it's just too amazing not to share. This (and the Evolution of Music video) is what made me fall in love with Pentatonix. They're so talented already, and the fact that they love NSYNC enough to do a medley like this just put them over the top for me.

"I Feel Pretty" from West Side Story and TLC's "Unpretty" mashup performed by the Glee Cast
This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. I think all girls can relate to this struggle at some point in their lives, and many guys as well. Quinn and Rachel's voice just mesh so well together, and, gosh, I just love this mashup!

The Fray/Kings of Leon/Kesha mashup performed by Savannah Outen
I wish I could tell you how long I've been subscribed to Savannah Outen on YouTube, but it would be impossible because this is my second YouTube account, and I was following her on my first YouTube account from way back when, so let's just say it's been a long time. I've just always thought she was so talented, and it's been amazing to watch her evolve as an artist. I feel like I've been on the journey with her. Anyway, this mashup is so incredible. I love all three of the songs that she sang, and she put them together so beautifully. (Side note: After writing this post, I went to go find my other YouTube channel, and apparently it's still live, and I made this embarrassingly horrible video with Savannah. Omg.)

TV Show medley performed by Us the Duo
There's nothing I love better than reliving my childhood, and these two medlies help me do just that. I love Us the Duo, but these two medlies make me extra happy because I literally watched every single TV show that they sang the theme song for.

What are some of your favorite mashups?

  2. OK, ever since you shared Us the Duo this summer, I've loved them! I follow them on snapchat so basically I feel like their best friends. They have no clue who I am. YES to the Nsync melody and YAY to the first mashup! It's like someone took my two favorite EDM songs over the summer and made it coffee-shop appropriate. My fav.

  3. These are all actually perfect. I've loved basically all of Glee's mashups, but that one in particular is ridiculously good. And I recently found the Gardiner Sister's through spotify and love their covers. And all the love for Pentatonix! I watched them on the Sing-Off my freshman year of college and they completely blew me away, and they've only gotten better with time. Great picks!

    And Penatonix loveee them!

Another you may want to check out is The Piano Guys Let It Go/Vivaldi's Winter. AMAZING! The Piano Guys are soooo brilliant with their mashups I get chills whenever I hear any song of theirs.

  8. Ok, THANK YOU so sincerely for sharing this because holy talent. The Gardiner Sisters, can we talk about them? How old are they??? Like, who can actually riff before puberty? Apparently they can and it's magical.
Also guitar playing in sweatpants, #whataboss. Us the Duo is just fantastic always. And Pentatonix holds a special place in my heart. Aca-forever.

  9. I love all these mashups! I don't think Us The Duo can sing anything and have it sound terrible! Two of my favorite mashups is another one by Kurt Hugo Schneider and they are the Bruno Mars Medley & Maroon 5 Medley both sung by Max Schneider & Victoria Justice!

  10. Us the Duo! My favourite is their "Call me Maybe" in the style of mumford and sons... I'm really enjoying the 1989 mashup.. but it doesn't say much for the diversity of T-Swifts music does it?

  11. I love Us the Duo. Not only are they super talented, they're also just really adorable together. Just love them. Ah!

  12. Right?! Us the Duo is amazing! I wish they would put out more stuff. I guess they're busy being in love, which I suppose is okay too. I haven't heard the Bruno Mars medley (going to listen to it after I finish typing this), but I love the Maroon 5 medley. I'm not a huge Victoria Justice fan (nothing against her; I just haven't watched her in anything that I loved), but I adored that medley and video. So cute.

  13. I just don't understand how every single one of them is talented. Families that are made of people who sing make me so angry, but only because I'm jealous that no one in my family has musical talent. Pentatonix. Sigh. I just love them. The other day, I just sat and watched all of their videos from the Sing-Off in order, just because. They're just so amazing!

  14. Mash-ups are my favorite! Ah! I could watch Sam Tsui videos all day. His voice is amazing!

  15. Woohoo! I love Glee so much, and all of their mash-ups make me smile. I've only watched the first four seasons though, because after Cory Monteith died, I just couldn't cope, so I just stopped. I want to start watching again though if they ever put the fifth season on Netflix! I'll definitely be checking out The Piano Guys! I don't think I've ever watched anything by them, so now I'm really excited!

  16. I'll definitely have to check Alex G out!

  17. Yay! I love sharing them! If you have any you want to share, don't hesitate to send them my way!

  18. Me too! It really brought me back (and made me realize how much TV I watched as a kid).

  19. I love mashups! In fact, I got really excited when I saw you posted this because I have my favorite mashups post scheduled for Friday. I love the 1989 mashup (and pretty much everything else Sam Tsui does.)

  20. I knew I wanted to pick a Glee mash-up, and it was so hard picking which one. I watched a few, and this one gave me chills, so I had to pick it. Gosh. It's such a great episode and song. They're so talented. It's so nice to find another Gardiner Sisters fan. There's literally no one I know that's ever heard of them, so I like to mention them from time to time on here haha. They're amazing and just so fun. I love Pentatonix! I didn't watch them on the Sing-Off (not live anyway, but I did watch all of their performances later), but they're definitely so talented. I can't believe all of the crazy things they can do all a capella!

  21. I DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD SNAPCHAT! I'm definitely going to find them so I can be their bestie too. NSYNC melodies are always a win. There are so many of them out there, but Pentatonix did it amazingly. I'm so obsessed with the Gardiner Sisters mash-up, because seriously, it just sounds so cool. Also makes me wish I could sing, but ya know, some people have that talented (i.e. you) and other don't (i.e. me).

  22. Their name is "ustheduo" and... how did you know that I can sing? Do you stalk my life? Because if you do, I'd rather you hang out with me then follow me around while I sing into my hairbrush!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not normally into mash-ups, but Us the Duo has really made me reconsider that. They are so talented! I may need to go and binge on their videos. I really liked the Ed Sheeran/Sam Smith that went viral recently!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ahhh! Haha. I'm a crazy, creepy stalker! Actually, you mentioned it on your blog once. Something about an audition, maybe? And I asked what you wanted to audition for or something, and you said you could sing! I'm not really 100% sure how the convo went, but fortunately no stalking of your hairbrush singing was involved.

  25. Oh yay, yay, yay! I'll definitely be checking those out, because I have an unhealthy obsession with them. Sam Tsui is amazing! Gah! How is he so talented?

  26. Us the Duo is just flawless. I love their voices together. They're so perfect together! And yes, the Ed Sheeran/Sam Smith mash-up. That was so PERFECT! I loved it.

  27. These are BOMB.com! I've heard a couple of them and I just love them. Especially that one from Glee. And of course you can never go wrong with Pentatonix. They are so talented it isn't even fair.

  28. oh my god. That NSYNC mashup is brilliant on so many levels. That particular Glee mashup is one of my favorites. I also really liked when they mashed up Thriller and Heads Will Roll. You should look that one up. It's fantastic.

  29. Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of her either. I've been watching her in Eye Candy but mainly just because I got sucked into the mystery part of the story not really anything to do with her. I'm terrible when it comes to those kinds of shows, doesn't matter how stupid it is, I just NEED to find out what happens. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I've never heard of Eye Candy, but I love a good mystery. I suppose I need to look it up!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I completely agree! The amount of talent in Pentatonix is unreal. I don't understand how literally everything they do sounds awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  32. RIGHT?! I love it so much. Watching the Pretty/Unpretty mash-up literally gives me chills. It was such a great episode, but even the music video just resonates with me so much. Gosh! I haven't watched the Thriller/Heads Will Roll mash-up since I watched that episode. It makes me want to watch the whole series again from the beginning!

    ReplyDelete
  33. That Glee mashup is one of my favorites by them! I also loved their Thriller/Heads Will Roll and their Someone Like You/Rumor Has It mashup.

  34. Kurt Hugo Schneider & Sam Tsui are awesome! One of my favorite mashup artists = Norwegian Recycling. Check out their "How Six Songs Collide" mashup! <3

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love Kurt and Sam! They're amazing together and apart. I'll have to check Norwegian Recycling out! Thanks for the suggestion!

  36. I love both of those ones too! I usually don't like when people sing Adele (because Adele's voice is flawless), but I LOVED their mash-up!
