moaning myrtle hopes everyone had a spooktacular halloween.

Before I share my super awesome Halloween costume from this year, I want to let y'all know that I finally got with the times and got a Facebook page for my blog. Please go like it here!

I don't know about y'all, but I take holidays very seriously. I'm always the person who wants to celebrate everything in the most intricate way I possibly can. I mean, y'all saw my Energizer Bunny costume, right? And as I said before, I do not believe in repeating costumes, so of course I had to come up with something awesome to wear for Halloween.

My friend, Anamaria, sent me a picture of this girl dressed as Moaning Myrtle, and I was like "That's it!" I did some Pinterest research for some more inspiration, and then I just kind of threw my outfit together. I didn't have to buy anything because I had some left over foam board from my Energizer Bunny drum.

I started with just a white button-up shirt. Everyone has one of those right? I also wore black slacks. I would've worn a long plaid skirt (or skort) if I had one, but I didn't, so I just went with the slacks. I borrowed a tie from a co-worker. Luckily, he had a blue striped one, so it looked like a Ravenclaw tie. I don't know how to tie ties, so I just ghetto knotted it. I actually liked how it looked though, because Hogwarts students wouldn't want their ties to be tied all proper anyway, right?

I also printed out a Ravenclaw logo and pinned it to my shirt with safety pins. I put my hair in pigtails, because Myrtle rocked them pigtails. Don't judge me too harshly on this one, but I already had those plastic glasses. Do y'all remember when they had midnight releases of the books? Well, I went to three of those at Barnes and Noble when I lived in South Carolina. At one of the book releases, they were giving out these glasses, and I kept them for that long. Yup. I'm cool.

Next, was the toilet. It was simple to make. I actually just traced my toilet bowl and toilet seat onto a foam board then cut them both out with an X-acto knife. I wrote one of Myrtle's famous lines on the toilet with a gold paint marker. This is optional, obvs, but I thought it was fun. Next, I took a hot glue gun and hot glued the two pieces together. I also glued some toilet paper onto it just for fun. You can also wear toilet paper as a scarf or belt or put some in your hair. I think the toilet paper just adds some character.

Lastly, I put on my graduation robe. Luckily, I graduated in black, so it was perfect for this costume. I also pinned the Ravenclaw crest to my graduation robe as well. So make sure when you print it, you print two copies!

I also wore this under my shirt just for fun. I think if Myrtle had a shirt with Harry's face on it, she would've worn it in true Cady Heron fashion. "She has this shirt that says 'I heart [Harry]' and she wears it under all her clothes."

I also won the costume contest at work for funniest costume, and I got $25. Holla! I plan on using it to buy half-priced Halloween candy today. I hope everyone had an excellent Halloween! Did y'all dress up this year?

  7. That's an amazing costume! I didn't dress up this year since it was my first day at a new job, but I learned they take the costume contest very seriously so I'm going to have to plot 2014's contest with care!
