Home Sweet Home In Progress.

Big news here: Jon and I are moving in together! It's a ginormous step in our relationship, and I'm so excited I just want to do some Miley twerking, but I won't cause I can't, and I don't think anyone wants to see me attempt.

Anyway, after months of looking for a place for us (because Jon is still a hour away for now. Boohoo), I stumbled upon this precious duplex in Shreveport, and it's absolutely perfect! Or so I thought.

Let me just say, moving is the most stressful thing I've ever done. You'd think that after moving several times throughout my life (and I mean several), I would have had some things figured out by now, but no. There are so many things that I had to figure out when I was getting this place, i.e. What a notary is. In my defense, why would I have know what a notary is? I've had no reason to get anything notarized in my entire life...until now.

I guess it wouldn't be a true "our first place" story without some bumps in the road, but picture this: Jon isn't moving in until the end of May, and after just a few hours helping me move my stuff and getting a few things fixed and cleaned up, Tiffany was riding solo in her new place. How many disasters could possibly occur?

1) On Friday, I had scheduled my water to be turned on. The rude lady on the phone said that I needed to be there. That it was an all day appointment, and if I wasn't there, I wouldn't get my water turned on. I took half a day off of work, fell asleep waiting. I get up to pee, thinking that I could just flush the toilet when my water gets turned on, but low and behold, it's already on, and I've wasted my day. No knock on the door to let me know. Nothing. Just a waste of my time.

2) After two hours on the phone with my cable company, I'm told that the person who lived there before me never paid their bills or cut off their service, so I couldn't turn mine on. It would have to wait till Tuesday, and a technician would have to come do some honey things. Fast forward to Sunday, I have some friends come hook up my cable and modem so they would be ready for the technician. They manage to get my internet working, but not cable. Fast forward to Monday, I call the cable company, and it takes this man all of ten minutes to get my cable working. When it's finally on, the sound didn't work, so I had to Google how to fix that. Thanks, Google.

Ghetto rigged cable. This isn't the TV staying in here, but until Jon moves his stuff in, this is what it's going to look like.

3) I know what you're thinking - "Well, Tiffany, if you have internet, then why haven't you been blogging?" (Oh, you weren't thinking that?) My computer decided that it doesn't want to work anymore, and every time I try to click on anything, it just sits there frozen. So there's that. Now I'm forced to blog from my phone. It's the real life struggle.

4) On Saturday, getting three people to look at and attempt to light it, the conclusion is my water heater is missing a part, which means no hot water for Tiffany. At this point, I hadn't showered since Thursday night (judge me), and I was not about to shower in the freezing cold, so I took my musty self to my parents and showered on Sunday. Fast forward to Monday, the maintenance guy gets the heater lit, but by the time I come home after work, it's gone out. He said he's going to order a whole new unit. Fast forward to Tuesday, the maintenance man replaces the hot water unit, but there's a carbon monoxide leak, so he has to go get some replacement parts. It's all fixed now though - yes lawd, hot water.

Brand new water heater!

5) The coil in the oven is broken, so a new part had to be ordered. In the mean time, I can't use the stove or oven so microwave meals and dollar menu only.

6) I ran the dishwasher for the first time, and water was still in it when the cycle was through. Some good news - my friends that managed to get the internet working fixed the dishwasher, so I've got one good thing going. Yay for clean dishes??

I have faith that once these links get worked out, I'll be living in paradise. The first picture shows all of the boxes that I've already emptied, so helloooo progress. Here's some documented progress:

Bathroom. I love the floor tile.

Spare bedroom.

Master bedroom. Our friends gave us the king mattress, so we're still in the market for a box spring and bed frame.

After having to shower at my parents for the first in forever this past week, I finally have hot water, but I'll still be eating McDonald's for all meals (except not really).

Kbye.

Meet one of my April sponsors, Heather!

I met Heather from My Little Happily Ever After thanks to Two Thirds Hazel, the mastermind behind Blogcation. Heather and I will be rooming together, and after reading all of her blog posts this past month, I just know that we're going to get along fabulously.

I'm a girly girl, but would like to think I'm up for trying most things once; I mean I did live on a farm for eight years! I think the color pink is one of the best parts of this world and I love it when animal prints are "in". The one thing I can't live without would be water, which I drink through my straw cups...everyday! I'm always blogging about the stuff that's important to me, sometimes it's as innocent as the beautiful Florida weather and other times it's the latest New Adult or Romance book I've read.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Getting to meet new people, read their stories and also share my life with others.
What motivates you?
Reading stories, seeing people strive for and achieve their goals.
If you could live a day in the life of anyone, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
Marilyn Monroe - she was fabulously tortured, a bad girl and also loved by many. Plus I loved JFK and was a little obsessed with him in middle school after we learned all about him!
What song are you currently obsessed with?

What makes you awesome?
I have an addictive personality, so if I love something it's done all the way. Plus I'm a little blunt with my friends and family, so if I don't like something you'll know it.

  2. That's a lot of stuff to happen when you first moved in, and congrats on getting a place together. I'll need to find out what a notary is before the year is over since I'm planning on doing the same by the end of January! Your apartment looks great and I'm so glad you have hot water!

  7. Yeaaaa. I feel like I'm so off my blogging game. I'm hating that unpacking is taking up so much of my time! I wish I could just wave a magic wand and everything be in its right place. I'm so so so excited that Jon and I will be living together, especially after being long-ish distance for so long!

  8. Riiight?! I was like "Is this real life?" It's a huge step in our relationship, but it's been exciting in spite of all of the hiccups. A notary is literally just someone that sits there and watches you sign a paper, and you pay them to watch you. I don't see the point in it if you can just get a couple witnesses, but that's just me! Haha. I am so grateful to finally have hot water!

  9. I am so over it already! I just want everything to be in the right place now, but I just slowly unpack every day. I can't believe how much stuff I've accumulated over the years. I'm hoping nothing else goes wrong either. I can't handle it!

  10. Not gonna lie - some tears were shed, but luckily I had Jon to keep my chin up. I'm excited to see what kind of blog posts come out of this, and I'm so excited to have someone to take pictures of me all the time now haha.

  11. It has been a ton of work, but I know it will be worth it in the end. We're renting right now, because we don't know where we'll want to settle down, plus the buying process is even more stressful than the renting process. I can't even imagine. This place is perfect for us for now!

  12. Oh gosh, I'm surprised you haven't gotten overwhelmed by it all and started crying! That's what I would've done! Props to you for not freakin' out! Good luck with everything else :)

  13. Congrats on moving in together! My family moved a lot when I was a kid so they dealt with all the stuff that you had to go through but aside from those, I love moving, haha. I love packing, unpacking, redecorating and being in a whole new place.

  14. When I moved in to my house in Fl. I was having some of the same problem you are having. It took a month and things got better. Just hang in there.

  15. Congratulations! I'm moving right now too, but it's my first time and I'm kind of learning as I'm going. I really hope that everything goes well, and that it doesn't rain this afternoon when my dad helps me move my furniture. I just can't wait for everything to be put away! haha. (: At least you have some crazy stories to tell about your first place (although, I'm sure it would've been better if Jon was there to experience all of that with you).

  16. It's been rough, but I know it will all be worth it when everything is fixed and in place. That's exciting that y'all are making plans to move in together! This was a long time coming. It felt like it would never happen, but now that it is, I'm so grateful.

  17. There were definitely some tears shed. I cry when I'm stressed or frustrated, and I was feeling both for sure. Once I got myself together (and Jon calmed me down), I felt much better.

  18. I can't wait to redecorate, but I hate hate hate unpacking. I just want it all to be done! Haha.

  19. Yay! Congrats on getting your first place. I know exactly what you mean about everything being put away. I just want it all to be done, but I only have time to do a little each day because I'm still working and don't feel like unpacking afterward. So lazy. I wish Jon would have been there to help so I wouldn't have been so stressed. Luckily, he's coming in this weekend. He won't be moving in until the end of May, so I'm hoping no major disasters happen while he's out. Good luck with your new place! I hope it doesn't rain on you!

  20. You have to pay someone to watch you sign something? Can I just post the video on Instagram and call it even?

  21. Moving is always crazy! It's even worse when you have all those issues to deal with. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing for you from here on out! Plus, at the end of the month your hunny will be with you! It will be wonderful and all this will seem like a bad dream :)

  22. Congrats on moving in with your boyfriend! Moving is definitely a pain. I'm not looking forward to it in the future!

  24. Moving always stresses me out because I have so much stuff, and now on top of that, I've had all of these problems to deal with. Luckily, most of the kinks have been worked out, so I can finally focus on finishing unpacking and decorating!

  25. Moving is so stressful! I know it'll all be worth it when we both finally get settled in. I'm sure it will eventually be awesome.

  26. Thank you! It is a huge leap, and even though it's been filled with a lot of stress, now that all the major kinks have been worked out, I'm sure it'll be smooth sailing from here. I can't wait to blog about stories of us living together. It's definitely going to be a major change.

  27. And definitely more stories to tell! Maybe you should make a segment about it. That would be really interesting. Heheh :D
