6 favorite movies based on books

Let's be honest. When a movie is made based on a book, the book is usually better. The only books that I didn't like as much as the movie was The Lord of the Rings series. I tried reading the first one, and I thought it was so boring. Sorry fans. I did love the movies though!

Anyway, as y'all know I love to read and watch movies, so when I read a book and find out that it's being made into a movie, I giggle like a little school girl. Also when I find out that a movie is being made based on a book, I try to get my hands on the book and read it first. Some people say it's best to watch the movie first so that you like both the book and the movie, but I'm a firm believer in reading the book first. If the movie doesn't measure up to the book to at least some point, then that's the movie's fault. I mean, look at the brilliance of Harry Potter. These are some of my favorite...

{source 1//2//3//4//5//6}

1. Harry Potter
By J.K. Rowling
I guess I'll start with the obvious one. I've never tried to hide my obsession with Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is a freaking genius, and all of the writers and directors and producers and actors (obvi) from Harry Potter were amazing.

2. Hunger Games
By Suzanne Collins
This one of the books I didn't read until I found out that it was being made into a movie. My friend, Mandy, recommended it to me and bought me the first book. I was immediately hooked. The first was my favorite. The movie was exactly what it needed to be, minus a couple of things, but it was still awesome.

3. Perks of Being a Wallflower
By Stephen Chbosky
I actually didn't read this book until after I saw the movie. My sister and I both wanted to see it, and luckily it was playing at the Robinson Film Center. The movie was so good, and both my sister and my boyfriend got the book for me for my birthday. Jon had to take his back because I opened my sister's first. I read it in two days and loved it.

4. Princess Diaries
By Meg Cabot
I honestly don't remember whether I read the book or saw the movie first. I read and watched both of them so long ago. I still watch and love the Princess Diaries. I think Anne Hathaway is flawless. Both the movie and book are hilarious.

5. Bridget Jones Diary
By Helen Fielding
I laughed through the entire book. I wish I had a friend like Bridget. It really made me love British people even more. I tried watching this movie with my sister, but she fell asleep. Trust me, it's not boring. I'm kind of glad she fell asleep because I was embarrassingly laughing out loud by myself. It was so freaking funny. I'm laughing right now just thinking about it.

6. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
By Ann Brashares
I think all girls love this movie. I've always had groups of girlfriends in foursomes, and between this set of girls and the girls in Sex and the City, we're always choosing the girl we're most like and running with it. (I'm Carmen and Carrie, by the way.) I loved the movie adaptation. Still do actually.

Honorable Mentions
(Don't judge me. I'm a child at heart.)

Meet one of my sponsors and blog friends, Rachael from Pretty in Pink!

I'm a 20 something college senior trying to navigate life, dating, and friendships and use my blog to document it.  My blog Pretty in Pink is basically a hodge podge of my life.  I love to write, and love even more to share my thoughts with others!

I started blogging because one of my sorority sisters did and I thought it was cool.  That was 2 years ago. Now I'm part of a community that I genuinely love and have made true friends with.  Seriously!

my first cara box!

So this month, I did my first Cara Box, and it really was the most amazing blog experience I've had yet. I got to connect with two awesome bloggers, and then send off a kick-butt box (if I do say so myself) to one and receive a super awesome box from another.

I don't think my pairs could have been any more spot on. The blogger I sent my box to is Rachel from Sunshine and Sinatra. I can't explain how much I love this girl. We've bonded amazingly, and I couldn't have asked for a better match. To see the Cara Box I sent her, go check out her post.

The blogger who sent me a Cara Box is Elyssa from Snatching Sequins. She's a fashion blogger, and she's absolutely fabulous. We have a ton of stuff in common, including our love for Sarah Dessen, Harry Potter, dachshunds, and anything sparkly. The box she sent me was spot on.

Look how precious the wrapping is. The pink ribbon is perfect, and all of the cute notes were so fun.

What I got:
Pug greeting card
Thank You notes with a bookshelf theme
Infinity scarf
Pink sunglasses
Princess Band-Aids
Sour Patch Kids
Socks
Coral Reef Hard as Nails nail polish
Perky Pink Hard as Nails nail polish

I love everything! Elyssa did such an awesome job picking things out for me. So much pink and so much sparkly. I loved my first Cara Box experience.

tips for newbie bloggers from a newbie blogger.

Okay, so I'm a newbie blogger with barely 100 followers and less than 70 blog posts, but I've learned a lot in the few short months that I've been blogging. So if there are any other newbie bloggers out there currently reading this post, here are the steps you need to take to get your blog up and running.

{from a newbie blogger}

Stop being a no-reply blogger
I know you've probably seen this everywhere, but it really is a big problem. I've had people leave lovely comments on my posts, and when I try to reply back to them, I get the dreaded: [noreply-comment@blogger.com]

Frustration all around. This usually comes with connecting your blog with Google+. I definitely don't recommend that. I made that mistake at the beginning and had no idea how much of a hindrance it would be on my blog. How do you fix this problem? Use this tutorial by Sarah here.

Remove word verification from comments
I didn't realize that I had this on my comments until someone pointed it out to me. I think we all know how annoying word verifications are. I know if I try a few times to do the word verification and it doesn't work or I can't read it, then I just give up and don't comment. Don't let the word verification deter people from commenting on your page. It's super easy to get rid of it:

1. Click on "Settings" from the downward arrow from your dashboard:

2. On the left choose "Posts and Comments" under "Settings."
3. Scroll down to where it says "Show word verification" and choose "No."
Easy peasy!

Make your blog pretty
I struggled with this from the beginning. I also have a problem with constantly changing my layout, but I assure you this one is here to stay. Having a pretty blog means having a nice header and sections that really tell your reader about who you are. The look of your blog is a reflection of you. It's like your clothes. If you wear clothes that look a hot mess, no one will take you seriously just like if your blog is messy and not aesthetically appealing, no one will want to read your blog.

Respond to comments
Don't leave your readers hanging. If someone reads your blog and is sweet enough to comment on one of your posts, respond! Being a blogger isn't about anonymity. It's about making friends and connecting with people. It's important to interact with your readers. Also on the flip side, you shouldn't be an anonymous reader either. If you read someone's blog, comment on it. Bloggers love to hear feedback and know what you think. Blogging is all about interacting, so interact! I also just learned that if you reply to someone's comment on the actual blog, they won't get an email notification. So when you reply, you have to reply through emails. That just goes to show that I'm still a newbie too, and there's always something to learn when it comes to blogging, no matter how long you've been doing it.

Do you have any good tips? Share them in the comments below!

d'Asti at Tiffany's.

Hello lovelies! I hope you all had amazing weekends. As you can see, I gave my little page a make-over of sorts. I have a new name "d'Asti at Tiffany's" and I've updated my header and my sidebar to reflect my new name.
So why d'Asti? Moscato d'Asti is my favorite type of wine. I pretty much only drink moscato as far as wine goes. I'm still trying to find other ones that I like, but moscato is just better than all the others. It's actually a dessert wine, so it's really sweet and tasty. Yum. Moscato d'Asti is a sparkling white wine, thus it combines two of my favorite things 1) moscato and 2) sparkly things.

Why at Tiffany's? Well yea, I'm Tiffany, and I love Breakfast at Tiffany's (and breakfast in general). So instead of having breakfast with me, want to have a glass of wine?

Let me know what you think of the changes!

Anyway, on to my weekend.

Friday
After work, I laid in bed for several hours and watched Season 4 of Gossip Girl. Thrilling.

Saturday
I had brunch with my friends, Amanda and Sarah, at Another Broken Egg. I had the Floridian, and it was quite scrumptious.

After brunch, I got back into my pajamas and watched more Gossip Girl. I know. I'm a wild child. After several hours of GG, I got ready for a night on the town with my girls. We started at Strange Brew to see my friend, Lucas's, band, The Larangos, play. It was just me, Amanda, and her friend, Brooke. It was like pre-gaming for the dance party. Two Malibu and pineapples in, I was ready to dance. This is my friend, Lucas. My camera makes faces look blurry, I guess.

I channeled my desire to dance at Phoenix Underground with Amanda, Brooke, and Sarah. I haven't had a night out in quite some time, so it was definitely needed. We stayed out until 4 am, and in spite of being ridiculously tired, I had to take a shower because there was no way I was going to be able to fall asleep with my hair smelling like smoke. Ew. I fell asleep at 5 am and woke up on Sunday at 2 pm. Am I back in college? Sorry for the lack of pictures. There's no way I would be documenting the amount of sweat on my body. I looked a hot mess.

Sunday
More Gossip Girl. My life. I did watch a few minutes of the VMAs and thankfully the part I watched happened to be the NSYNC REUNION! I'm still on a high from watching that performance. Justin Timberlake is flawless, and even though Lance can't dance as well as he could back in the day and JC was trying to steal the spotlight, and they were only onstage for two minutes, it was the happiest two minutes of my life (not dramatic all haha).

How was your weekend?

i don't hate taylor swift.

To start with something completely irrelevant to this post, I'm freaking obsessed with this song. I had never heard of her before Wednesday, but now I can't stop listening to this song. Plus, we share the same name, so I think I was destined to love this song. It's so cute!

Okay now...

I used to be obsessed with Taylor Swift. When "Fearless" came out, I downloaded it as soon as I woke up and was late to class because I wanted to listen to the whole album ahead of time. When "Speak Now" came out, I put the album on my iPod and listened to it to and from class. I am a fan of "Red," but I didn't fall in love with the album like I did with her ones.

 photo 10bb82cc-b67f-4d8c-a0ff-e39b79f146ca_zps0bb30ae6.jpg

There are a lot of T. Swift haters out there and I just don't understand why. All the people hating on her now are the people who used to love her back in the day. I'm not a super fan or anything, but I'm not a hater either.

She's had a lot of boyfriends.
So what? She's 23! I'm 23 too, and I know if I got the chance to date any of the guys she dated (namely Zac Efron, John Mayer, and Lucas Till) I would go for it in a heartbeat. Why not date a bunch of guys? Isn't that what your twenties are about? Most girls that age date a lot, but people don't know about it because they're not famous. People keep saying that she needs to "grow up," but everyone her (our) age is doing the same thing. She didn't get the chance to live the crazy college life. She got something better! She gets to meet hot celebs daily that the rest of us are drooling over. You go Glen Coco!

She sings about said boys in her songs.
You would too if they screwed you over. You know that if you got the opportunity to publicly embarrass someone who broke your heart, you would so take it. Some say she's abusing her power, I say it's brilliant.

She's not country.
Four albums later, she's was bound to change up her style. Why is that so bad? It's not like she was super country in the first place. Sure she had some twang, but her style was always kind of poppy. Now she's dipping into a bunch of genres, and people are still singing along. Every person who turns 22 starts singing her song. Country or not, her songs are catchy.

Now I'm not gonna lie, I do miss the innocent country girl with frizzy hair who didn't have a ton of relationships under her belt and made fun homemade music videos with her friends, but I know if I were her, I would be doing the same thing, plus trying to throw Shia LaBeouf and Justin Timberlake in the mix.

jobs i could be good at.

I don't have many talents. I'm not really good at anything, but I'm kind of good at some things. I'm a fast learner, but then I get bored. I like to dip my feet into as much as I can.

I love my new job, and I know that will lead to a lot of awesome things in the future, but if I didn't have my job, here are a few back-up plans:
Making jingles
I'm constantly singing. Just ask my office mate or my sister or my friends or Jon! I sing when...there's a song stuck in my head, if someone asks me to do something (I'll just sing the task), if I'm excited, if I'm nervous. There's always an occasion for singing. I like to make up my own mini songs. It's gotten to the point where I just do it randomly. Life is a song; I'm just singin' it.

Actress
Not Emma Stone or Rachel McAdams status. I'm talking low-budget Netflix and made-for-TV movies. Most of the people in those movies are terrible actors, so if they could do it, I'm sure I could too. How fun would that be? I could travel to random places and meet awesome people. Every once in awhile, I could be in a movie with someone famous (or famous-ish) person. I can dig it.

Taste tester
I think I would actually be pretty terrible at this because I hate vegetables. I just want to eat free food and try new things. I have an open mind, but like I said, I don't like vegetables. And if something smells bad, it ain't goin in my mouth. So maybe I should scratch this from the list, but what an awesome idea, right?

Disney princess
People are always telling me that I look like Pocahontas and Princess Jasmine, so why not channel that into being one of them at Disney? I could even be Tiana. She is from Louisiana after all. Plus all of the Disney princesses are about 16, and I look that age anyway. I would be so good at it. Posing for pictures in strangers' cameras. Signing autographs. Smiling all the time. The only thing I would have a problem with is holding my bladder. I hear they can only leave their post after a certain amount of hours.

Are there any odd jobs that you think you could be good at?

the city that never sleeps.

As you've read before, I worked at camp last summer. I told you all about my trip to Philly, but I haven't told you about my much more exciting trip to NYC! And you've already heard about my first trip to New York, but this time was a little different. I went with a few of my camp friends, one of which was from the city. It was a two-hour commute, but it was so worth it.

We parked in a parking garage in Hoboken so we could avoid traffic. I took my first ride on a train. Not gonna lie, I was very confused, but I had seven people there to help me.

 photo 773473d8-6078-452c-954e-862e5a52f708_zps2cf30950.jpg

Our first stop was Times Square to eat an overpriced lunch at TGI Friday's. I would've rather had a street hotdog, but it was fun. I loved the energy of Times Square. There were so many people. Too bad most of them were either rude, trying to sell me something, or bumping past me. I posed for a picture with Smurfette, but then she asked for money after. I thought we were friends. Meet my two best camp friends: Brooke and Kelsey.
We stopped at Forever 21, but I was so overwhelmed by the selection that I had to get out of there. Brooke, Laura, and I snuck out to go to the Disney store next door. Heaven. Laura and I were trying to be vicious bears. Are you convinced?

The Hershey store was also a priority. I was overwhelmed by the chocolate selection. We snapped a pic with the green M&M.

 photo a0e711f7-be55-4ced-9e31-2f8f0944943e_zpsf660b95e.jpg

Halfway through our NYC adventure, it started raining. And when I say raining, I mean there was a torrential downpour. Our friend who lived in NYC had left us to go visit with some friends, and while we were on the way to see her (walking, by the way), is when it started pouring. We stopped in a random grocery store. They took pity on us and gave us free cookies. The girl that worked in the bakery even snapped a picture of us for her Instagram. This was easily one of my favorite parts.
My friends that you haven't met yet are Kara, Michelle, and Emma. After picking our friend up (and using her towels to dry off) on the upper east side, our last stop was Carlo's Bakery. I spent a ridiculous amount of money, but it was worth it because it was all delicious.
Buddy wasn't there, but we did meet his sister, Maddalena. So that was pretty cool.

 photo 5fe64e7c-819b-4d8d-abbf-8d4fe1b8af86_zpsae940be0.jpg

I was just talking to my co-worker about how much we both wanted to go back to New York. I mean, the first time I went, I was in 8th grade with my art class and this time, I only got to go for a few hours. I want to go and spend a week there (or maybe a life?). I just want to go back. Pleeeeease.

i went camping (kinda).

It's been three weeks since I last saw Jon, so I was so so so so excited to be able to go spend a whole weekend with him.

Friday
I drove to see him after work, so I didn't get there until about 6. We watched a few episodes of Dollhouse (thanks, Netflix) and ate hotdogs. Simple, yet delicious. We passed out pretty early.

Saturday
He made me breakfast in bed.(Cue: Awww) Then we both got ready and went thrift shopping. I love thrifting. I can't even explain. There's an amazing place called Rolling Hills in Ruston, and it's so much more amazing than Goodwill (which is all we have in Bosser. Boo). They had a lot of good brands this time - NY & Co. and Banana Republic. Too bad none of them fit me. I ended buying some work pants that were Worthington and only $3. Also soft cover books are only $.50 and hardcovers are only $1, so I bought a ton - 8 books for $5.50. The bookworm in me is dancing (actually it's just me dancing. I do that sometimes, and Jon gets embarrassed).

After thrifting, we ate a quick Whataburger lunch (their honey BBQ sauce is divine) picnic style at the greenhouse where Jon's twin works.

Afterwards, we went to the Bonnie and Clyde Museum in Gibsland, which is about 20 minutes away. I am not a history connoisseur, so I literally knew nothing about them, but now I do, and it was a pretty cool experience. They wouldn't let you take pictures inside, so this is all I got.

 photo d0e06c3b-5387-432c-8073-079bbf761ba5_zps867da81c.jpg

Now for the part that you're all waiting for...camping! We were supposed to go to Kisatchie, but all the money that was supposed to go to gas actually went to Jon's new car battery! Yup. His car battery died, so no camping money. We decided to be cute and pitch a tent in his spare bedroom. We were really nerdy and did as much of the camp experience as we could. We roasted marshmallows (on candles) and made s'mores, we told ghost stories (read off of our phones), we played card games, and slept and ate in the tent.

Authentic camp food haha.

Sunday
Our goal for the day was to do absolutely nothing productive. We succeeded. He made me breakfast in bed (again) then we watched Lie To Me on Netflix (the entire first season). Neither of us had ever seen it, but now we both love it. Jon is determined to be able to be a human lie detector now.

It was kind of amazing. I really hate leaving him. Sigh. How was your weekend?
